Guru Granth Sahib
Kirtan Sohila 1
Sohila is
traditionally an art of singing that women sing for a bride to be. All the
women relatives gather at the home of bride to be and oil the girls hair
ceremonially all the while singing songs, then she is given a bath and at night
women folk gather and sing songs called suhag or sohalada. These songs are
mixture of happiness and pain of departure of one of the family members. Guru
Nanak has taken the background of this tradition and created an atmosphere to
create his composition to appeal to the Almighty. In his composition the mortal
being is a bride who is given instructions to join a satsung (house atmosphere
of the bride to be where song are being sung and instructions and blessings
showered on bride that after her departure how she shall unite with her husband
to be) and depart this world to unite with her husband (God). In Gurmat the
praises of Lord ‘Kirat’ is usually sung in several ragas and their consorts the
raginis. This ‘Kirat’ is usually done in sehaj form that means no loud appeal
to hype emotions or going into trance that happened with most sufis or bhaktas
who not only went into trance themselves but indulged in evoking that kind
atmosphere that other devout followed. Gurmat or Sikhism strictly prohibits
this kind of ‘Kirat’ so Gurus themselves evolved a tradition of singing ‘kirat’
of Almighty Lord and all their Bani is recorded in Guru Granth Sahib only in
those ragas that helps to keep you at a level where understanding is maintained
and contemplation is not forgotten. Contemplation on various attributes of Lord
like in Mulmantra shall remain in focus so that we shall never forget that
Almighty is One and there is no other like Him. The mulmantra is the basic foundation
or truth and that says; Ek Onkar, Karta, Purukh, Nirbhau, Nirvair, Akal, Murat
Ajuni, Saibhang, Gur, Prasad. Kirat or praises that we sing for the Lord with
all the above attributes is Kirtan when it is joined with celestial music. We
conclude our day by singing these praises so the term Kirtan Sohila.

Guru Granth Sahib
Rehras Sahib 19
The evening prayer Rehras concludes with two verses in Raag
Gujri by the Fifth Master Guru Arjun Devji. The message says that even if you
contemplate on the Supreme Being in your mind, He will notice and reciprocate,
the human mind is ready for the spiritual development and the rest is taken
care by the God Himself. He shall inspire you to seek company of right people
and do right things.
Raag Gujri Mahala 5
Shlok: Contemplate on the True Guru within your mind. With
your tongue recite on His Name, with the eyes of your mind see Him and
concentrate your ears to hear His Name. Once you reach this state that you are
fully imbued with His influence you shall find shelter in His court. These
things (beholding Him with your eyes, reciting His Name with your tongue and
hearing His Name with your ears) are given to only those whom he has showered
His benediction, says Nanak. Rare very rare are indeed good people in this
world II 1 II
The Saviour has not only saved me but He has emancipated me.
I had fallen at His feet and with His mercy all my affairs are taken care of.
When He becomes compassionate He forgets you not instead He inspires to keep
company of the Saints and helps you to cross over the worldly ocean. The
immoral, slanderer and the criminal minded are destroyed in an instant. Nanak
says; in his mind, whoever makes the mainstay of Almighty Lord, he comes to
peace and all his troubles vanish II 2 II

Rehras Sahib 18
After the compilation of Guru Granth Sahib Guru Arjun Devji is paying tribute to the Almighty for making him capable of doing this monumental work because without His mercy this task was too big. This is documented in Guru Granth Sahib on Ang 1429 and gives us the message that we should be humble enough to thank God for any success that we achieve in life. It is His grace that we are able to do something to achieve success.
Slok Mahala 5 (Ang 1429): O God I cannot understand or fathom the greatness of your mercy that you have made me the medium and made me capable of doing what I have done. I had no such virtue and I was merit-less but Lord you took pity on me and you showered your benediction on me. You rained this merci on me O Lord and I met my true friend my True Guru. Nanak if I am blessed with the Name of True Lord my body and soul shall blossom forth II 1 II
Next few messages to obtain the eternal bliss of His Name are mentioned in the evening prayer. Here a verse from Guru Arjun Devi ji’s slok on Ang 961: O Omnipotent Lord you reach all those places where no other can reach. In that fire that burns in the womb of a mother you protect the mortal (Child- new born) O Lord. Hearing Your Name being recited the messengers of death run away. The dreadful, formidable and unfathomable world ocean is crossed where Gurbani is being recited. Those who feel the thirst for Your Name Nectar they quench their thirst because that is the only virtuous deed in this Dark Age to sing Your praises. The Lord Master is merciful to all and takes care of everyone for their every breath. O Nanak no one returns empty handed from your door II 9 II

Ramkali Mahala 3 Anand (Ang 40): Listen to the word (song) of
bliss O fortunate ones and all your longings shall be fulfilled. I have
obtained the Supreme Being and all my sorrows have departed. Hearing the True
Gurbani all the troubles, maladies and sufferings vanish. All the Saints and
Guru-oriented people who have understood the glory of the Almighty their hearts
are filled with joy. All those who utter this Gurbani and all those who listen
to it become immaculate and pure because it is the praise of All pervading Lord.
Coming in to the shelter of this All Pervading Lord the untouched (Anahad)
music of bugles start blowing for the mortals says Nanak II 40 II
After the 40th pauri of Anand the next is addition
of Fifth Master in Mundawani Raag on Ang 1429 of Guru Granth Sahib ji. This is
very strategically placed Bani of Guru Arjun Devji. After the compilation of
Guru Granth Sahib ji Guru Arjun ji seem to be very satisfied and left the
message for us that I have served you three very good eatable in a platter
(Guru Granth Sahib) and they are Truth, Contentment and contemplation. In other
words this glory of Guru Granth Sahib is documented by the Master himself and
Guru Gobind Singh ji appropriately gave it the Status of Guru who will
eternally guide us to remember the Almighty only.
Mundawani Mahala 5: Three things are served on a platter and
they are Truth, Contentment and Contemplation. The nectar Name of the Lord has
been put therein. If someone relishes it shall be emancipated. These three
things cannot be given up this fact shall be enshrined in mind. Taking the
shelter at His (Lords) feet the dark ocean of world shall be crossed over. O Nanak
all this bright expanse is only an extension of the Supreme Being II 1 II (when
the ignorance is replaced by knowledge of the Supreme Being through contemplation
the brighter side of life is seen).

Ramkali Mahala 3 continues: Guru ji says One who recognizes the
abode of The Timeless Being in his mind, he is blessed to hear melody sung with
five musical instruments. In that very fortunate house (heart) the Lord has
infused His Might that resounds with musical melody and expels fear of five
demonic desires and fear of death. This fortune is obtained only by those in whose
destiny You have ordained to be attached with your Name. Nanak says; they
obtain peace and their heart-home is filled with celestial music II 5 II
Without the true love for Lord the human body remains
un-honoured. Bereft of your love and not honoured what can these poorly bodies
do ? You are the Only Omnipotent Lord who can show mercy and honour these poor
creatures with your Name. They have no place to rest unless you show mercy and
honour them to learn Gurbani and your Name. Nanak says: without love for Your
Name what can these wretched bodies do? II 6 II
Bliss, bliss says all
but the real bliss is known only through the Guru. When the eternal bliss is
learned through Guru and the man understands it then the Beloved Lord shows His
mercy. With his mercy the Lord cuts away the bindings of all sins and the kajal
(a brightening material for the eyesight) of divine knowledge is bestowed. All those
who remove the love for worldly things from within get the bliss of word of
True Name. Nanak says: this alone is the bliss, the bliss that a mortal can
obtain only from the Guru II 7 II
O great Lord! Only that person obtains the bliss that You
give. You give and he recognizes it and all others are wretched beings who
wander about in doubt have nothing but go in search in all ten directions. All
those who understand the Will of Lord be get your grace and their minds become immaculate. Nanak says: O Love to whom you give he obtains bliss II 8 II

Rehras Sahib 15
In the beginning we learned about the glory of abode of God
and who all sing at His door. Then we learned that the Lord is Supreme and
Unique and there is none other like Him so His Oneness has been accepted in
Sikhism. In his composition Chaupai Guru
Gobind Singhji has explained that one can attain spiritual reliability by
believing in Oneness of God and wandering in search of suitable God ends once
you consolidate your belief. Next in the prayer a song of bliss (Anand) has
been added composed by the third Guru
Amardasji the measure (Raag) is Ramkali.
Ramkali mahala 3: There is but one God. By the grace of True
Guru He is obtained.
O mother, joy has welled up for I have obtained the True
Guru. He has come so naturally to me that I feel within me the sound of music
and song of bliss. The gem like ragas with their families (raginis) have taken
abode within me and are singing the words of God for me.
O men all those who enshrine The Lord in their mind and sing
the Gurbani can feel the song of bliss within them. Nanak says I have achieved
that joy of His (True Lord’s) abode within me II1II
O my soul ever remain in the abode of Lord and He will not
let you suffer any pain instead He will help you in completing all tasks and he
shall merge you within Himself.
The lord is omnipotent to do all things so why expel Him from
your mind. Nanak says ever abide with The Lord II2II
O Lord what you have not in your abode? You have everything
in your home but he alone receives it who you bestow.
He who enshrines Your Name in his mind ever sing your praises
and excellences O Lord. Beautiful shabad and music keeps playing in his mind. Says
Nanak, O True Lord what is that you don’t have in your mansion? II3II
The Name of the True Lord is my only support. With the
support of this True Name within my mind all my hungers (for material things)
are satiated. The name of True Lord that is now abiding within me has blessed
me with peace and comfort and all my desires are satiated. I shall ever be
ready to sacrifice myself to such a True Guru who posses all excellences. Nanak
says O Saints, you shall make that Name and His words your beloved. The True Name
has become my only support II4II

Savaiye (Ang 257 Dasam Granth)
Part of Savaiye composed by Guru Gobind Singh ji has been
added to the evening prayer Rehras. Chaupai is a composition that invokes
spiritual reliability in Oneness of the Almighty who is Supreme and there is
none other like Him. Savaiye is denial of multitudes of other doctrines which
have been diluted by the vested interests of the mighty and demonic action
oriented vested interests (like the Islamic forces that created havoc in India
for eight centuries to establish their power which was nothing more than lust for
wealth and luxurious life and for that they downgraded humanity in every mean
way).
Savaiye; Ever since I have taken shelter at your feet O Lord
I have not cast my eyes elsewhere.
Puranas the doctrines of the believers of Sri Ramchandra and
Quran the doctrine of believers in Rahim have been preached to me but when you
gave me shelter I could not believe in anything other than you O unique Lord.
Smiritis, Shastras and Vedas have been telling the clues to
search for you but you gave me shelter so I didn’t want to know them.
O Mighty Lord who adorns the sword it is by your grace that I
can say all these things because the Truth is that You have spoken through me.
Dohra ; O Supreme Timeless Being I have abandoned all other
doors to be at your door and You take my hand and preserve my honour because
this Gobind is only at your service II

takes His seat on Lotus flower and then He sits in meditation taking the form
of Shiva. Everywhere He shows us His wondrous manifestation in His Creation.
His manifestation was there when He created the universe and was there from the
beginning of the ages II19II
O Mighty Lord now you can protect me and the Sikhs who are
your followers and strike down all who don’t believe in You. All around demonic
forces (Malechh) take charge (and destroy humanity) with their destructive
powers shall be vanished from this battlefield (of injustice) II20II
O Sword adorned Almighty Lord all those who have taken
shelter with you their enemies have died their own sorrowful death. O Lord all
those who took shelter in your feet their sorrows and pain were expelled by You
II21II
All those, who remember the Lord even for a moment the fear
of death is not felt by them, in all ages they are protected by Him and all the
enemies are instantly defeated II22II
O Lord with your graceful glance all the pain and sorrow of
the devotees is abandoned and all the great powers are bestowed and the enemies
cannot even touch their shadows II23II
O Almighty Timeless Lord all those beings who have remembered
you even once with all concentration have lost the fear of death and are rid of
poverty and enemies II24II
O Almighty Lord, the owner of flag with symbol of sword I
have come into your shelter, save me from my enemies here and everywhere by

Choupai: Akal Purakh (The Timeless Being) who has created
this universe and then produced the Gods, the demons and the semi –gods but
Himself remained unique from the beginning till end of the creation. Such a
Timeless Lord alone can be our Guru showing us the path to enlightenment II9II
I pay my obeisance to such a Timeless Being who has created
the humanity and in each of his servant he placed God-like qualities to comfort
them. With His Almighty strength he can destroy the enemies of His devotees
II10II
He knows what goes on in each living being. He knows the pain
of both good and bad people. From the smallest creature like an ant to mammoth
elephant are under His graceful view and He is proud of His creation II11II
Though The Timeless Being is unattached still He knows
everything. He can feel the pain of good people and when the saints feel
comforted. He knows the pain of each and every living being in His creation
II12II
O Mighty Creator when you use your power to expand then the
creation is expanding but when you use the power to withdraw all bodied forms merge in You II 13II
All the bodied creatures sing your praises according to their
understanding but You remain unattached. This knowledge is known in Vedas and
to all those learned and mystics II14II
The Timeless Being is without any Form, without any change
and without any support and He was such from the beginning of this universe but
fools still boast to describe Him. Even the Vedas and their writers could not
describe Him II15II
The fools can never know the mystery of Your Being. Making
idols from stones they are only trying to guess your Form. Making the idol of
Shiva they draw inferences of the Timeless Being who is immortal. They are
clueless of the personality of the Formless Being II16II
Everyone tries to
describe You according to their understanding but none can account the expanse
that you have created. It is difficult to make the estimate of the beginning
when You started creating this world II17II
The Formless Being has manifested in beautiful forms. He
becomes beggar and King. He is the producer of egg-born, foetus born and born
from the sweat. He created all the four sources of production – vegetation,
water, under earth and air and from that He created His creation II18II

Rehras Sahib 10
Patshahi 10 kabiyobaach benti II Choupai II
Before we take up the hymns of 10th Master Guru
Gobind Singh ji in Rehras a small note of Sikh history is important for
understanding the Sikh code of conduct also known as Rehatnama. After the death
of Maharaja Ranjit Singh the Sikh Empire started disintegrating. The Dogras who
were Ministers in Sikh Empire started conniving with British and started
divulging the inside information and weak points of the princes to Britishers.
On that basis British started their strategies to take control over the Sikh
Empire. With all the list and cunningness this took over ten years before it
fell into the hands of British. Still they were afraid to merge it into British
India Empire so they bought time more than ten years to consolidate and win
over Sikhs as loyalists. They opened English medium schools in urban areas and
pharsi was abolished and Urdu was made official language and most rural school
education was in Urdu medium. The English medium schools were run by Christian
missionaries and lessons in Bible were made compulsory in these schools. When
four students converted to Christianity the Sikh intellectuals were awakened
from their slumber and several meetings took place Amritsar and so were born the
concept of Sikh values revivalism. The maharajas had spread their Empire up to Afghanistan
and for that they needed huge armies. For employment lot of people both from Muslims
and Hindus converted to Sikhism but they were not followers of Sikhism. During
this period lot of confusion developed as there was no central body of Sikhs
that could control over this confusion and show the large masses the value of
Sikh concepts and values. Rehatnama or Sikh code of conduct was revived and re-scripted
by the Singh Sabha that played an important role in Sikh renaissance. Rehras
was edited and verses from the Dasam Granth, composed by Guru Granth Sahib were
added during this period. Gutkas that contain Nitnem or daily prayers were made
available to people and rehras is mostly read from Gutkas. Lot of good quality
Sikh literature was published during this period. This helped to revive Sikh
values that converted in to a movement for Sikh identity and freedom of
Gurudwaras from the clutches of Mahants and British administration.

continues: You are the Creator and everything happens as per Your Will. There
is none other besides You. You understand and take care of what You have
created. By the grace of the Guru, the slave Nanak has been revealed the
presence of God II4II2II
Asa Mahala 1: Man is born in that worldly pool that is
created by God and has hot water as fire (All the features of worldly love of
materialism, possession, emotions, illusions). In this mire of worldly love his
feet are stuck and he cannot move. I have seen him drowning there. O foolish
mind why don’t you remember the Unique Lord? By forgetting Him you are losing
on all good virtues II1IIRahaoII
I am neither from those who are content (with your knowledge)
nor those who call themselves true, I am not from learned men, foolish and
ignorant I am born in this world. Nanak says; I have sought the sanctuary of
those who do not forget You O Lord! II2II3II
Asa Mahala 5: You have been given the human body (from all
living creatures human body is thought to be greatest because it has been given
mind and soul, emotions and powers of thinking, actions and reactions that can
be controlled). This is the chance to meet the Lord of the world. All other
works that you are doing may not count but join the congregation of Saints and
contemplate on the Name alone II1II Make efforts to cross over the dreadful
worldly ocean. In the love of worldly things the human life may pass in vain
IIrahaoII
I have not served the Saints and not recognized the God the
King. My actions are lowly says Nanak. I have come to your shelter O Lord keep
my honour II2II4II

Raag Asa
Mahala 4 continues: Infinite and innumerable treasures of devotion are full to
brim. The devotees worship and praise their Lord in so many different ways;
some practice penances, some sit in deep meditation, some read smiritis,
shastras and perform rituals prescribed within these religious books in all six
ways of religion and other rites. All those Saints are sublime O my auspicious
Master by whose worship and praises You are pleased II4II
You are the
primal Being, the most excellent Creator, none can be greater then You. In all
ages You remained the same One, never changing and ever stable Creator. You
yourself have created the whole universe and fashioned it to what shall come
and what shall go. You accomplish and then destroy. Nanak shall become slave to
Such a Creator who knows all and everything II5II1II
Asa Mahala
4: You are the true Creator O my Lord Master.
Only that happens what pleases You and I receive what You give me
IIRahaoII All are yours and they meditate on you but with the mercy of
your grace the jewels of Your Name are obtained only by those with whom you are
pleased. The pious and Lord oriented (Gurmukh) get Your Name and the self
willed (manmukh) lose it. But the mortals have no control over Your Will, You
separate them from yourself and unite them with You at will II2II You are like
that vast River that takes in all. There is none other like You. All the
sentient beings (people who can feel) are your play things. The separated
beings get united again ( because of your play). The men whom you cause to
understand you, they understand you O Lord and then they utter and repeat your
Name O Lord. He, who has served You has obtained peace and easily gets absorbed
in You and your Name II3II

Rehras Sahib 7
Raag Asa Mahala 4 Sopurakh: There is but One God. He is
obtained by the grace of True Guru. The Lord (sopurakh- in his personified
quality) is pure. The God is free of any attributes because He is free of
influence of Illusions or maya though He has His presence everywhere, He is
unapproachable, unfathomable- without bounds and without any limits. All meditate
upon You O the True Creator of everything. All the living beings are yours. You
are bountiful to all living beings. Meditate on the Lord O Saints because He is
dispeller of all distresses. Since He is present in everyone He becomes Master
and Servant Himself. O Nanak the man is insignificant II1II
O God you are contained in every being in body and soul yet
some are the donors and others beg. These are all your wondrous plays. How you
become donor and beggar? And enjoy all the play. I know you alone; you are
infinite, limitless, Supreme Lord. What excellences should I narrate and
recount. Nanak will sacrifice to all those who serve you and sing your praises
O Lord II2II
All those who deliberate and ponder over You, they shall live
peacefully in this world. All those who remember You are emancipated and liberated
O God because noose of death is cut for them (cycle of rebirth stops for
them). All those who meditate upon the
fearless, fearless Lord their fears get shaken off. All those who serve my
Lord, My Lord has absorbed them in His personality. Blessed are they who have
meditated on My Lord. Nanak shall ever sacrifice to such devoted ones

Guru Granth Sahib
Rehras Sahib 6
Raag Gujri Mahala 5 : composed by the fifth Guru Arjun Devji.
( Before we take up this hymn there are two words that need understanding to
get the insight into the Word. Nidhan; are nine treasures which are supposedly
guarded by Kuber the God of wealth and they are Padam- precious metals, Maha
padam- precious stones and pearls, Sankh- delectable food and beautiful
clothes, Makar- knowledge of weapons and glory in a Kings court, Mukund-
knowledge of fine art like music and poetry, kund- commerce in precious metals,
Neel- commerce in precious stones, kachhap- commerce in clothes and grocery.
Sidhan: there are total 18 sidhis that are powers obtained to
have expertise in supernatural powers. These experts are called Sidhas. From
eighteen powers the most popular that these experts strive are eight following;
Anima- to transform into the smallest unit like an atom, Laghima- to become
light weight, Prapati- the power to obtain anything that one desires, Prakayam- independent will that no one can
defy, mahima- powers to make oneself large at will, Ishitva- Power to rule,
vashitva- power to control others with influence to get things done at own
will, kaamavasayita- power to control sexual desires).
O mind why are you
thinking of enterprising when the revered God Himself is engaged in the care
(of this world)? He has created beings in the rocks and stones and has provided
sustenance to them. O my Lord of mammons (maya) he who joins the company of the
Saints is saved. With the grace of the Guru he obtains powers to blossom the
dry wood II1II RahaoII Mother, father, people, son and wife are not support of
others. O my soul why do you fear? God reaches sustenance to everyone. The
migratory birds fly hundreds of miles leaving their young ones behind. Have you
ever thought who might be feeding them? All the nine treasures and eight
supernatural powers are held in His hand. The slave Nanak is devoted and ever
ready to sacrifice to the Lord who has vastness beyond any limits or bounds

Rehras Sahib 5
The collection of hymns in Rehras are classified into three
sections. Sodar, Sopurakh and Kahe re man. The next hymn composed by Guru Ramdas
ji also comes under section sodar.
Raag Gujri Mahala 4: O great Guru, devotee of the True Guru I
pray with all humility that you enlighten me with the Name of True person II1II
O my friend Guru enlighten me with Name of the True Guru. The Name revealed to
me by the instructions of the Guru shall become friend of my very life and the
praises of the Lord shall remain my vocation all my life II1II rahaoII
Those entire God’s people who have developed devotion and
faith for God’s Name are fortunate. After obtaining the Name of Lord they are
satiated and the company of Saints brings forth all shining virtues in them
II2II
Those who do not get God’s Name and the elixir of the Name
are unfortunate and meet their death empty handed. Those who do not come under the shelter of God
and in the company of Saints, their life is waste and their living is cursed II3II
Those who obtain the bliss of His Name in the company of true
Guru have their destiny written on their forehead. Blessed, blessed is the congregation
of Saints from where the elixir of True Lord’s Name is procured and O Nanak
manifest becomes the Lord’s Name II4II 4II

Rehras Sahib 4
Raag Asa Mahala 1: Everyone who says You are great says it from hearing others but the one who was able to see You knows how great You are! Only those can say who are absorbed in You. O my great Master of unfathomable depth You are an ocean of excellences. No one can ever estimate the vastness of Your expanse IIRahaoII
All those who contemplate on you are just practising contemplation. Having met together, to contemplate on you could they find your real worth? The theologians, the contemplatives and they who are preachers of the preachers have described you. But they could not describe even an iota of your praises and greatness II2II All truths, austerities and all magnificence of the Sidhas (who attain occult powers) may not have been possible without You. Only with your grace they have obtained all such powers II3II All those without all such powers are just poor narrators. The treasure of your praises and qualities are overflowing so why should they think of some other means? O Nanak the True one is Himself, His own decorator II4II
Asa Mahala 1
By repeating Your Name I live. By forgetting I will die. Uttering your Name is a difficult task. Only if someone feels the hunger for Your Name, that hunger shall consume his pain II1II
O mother! True is the Lord and true is His Name. How can He be forgotten? IIrahaoII Men have been weary of describing His qualities but still they could not even tell an iota of His praises. Even when all would meet together and try to describe His Glory, He shall not become greater or lesser II2II Lord does not die and there is no mourning. He continues to give and there is never any shortage. This alone is His merit and He is not comparable. There has been none like Him and there shall be none like Him. As you are great O Lord! so are your gifts. You are (that personality) who has created day and night. Vile are those who forget You O Master. O Nanak, by forgetting You, men have themselves lowered to wretches II4II 3II.

Guru Granth Sahib
Rehraas Sahib 3
Shlok: God it is a strange world you have created where
difficulties become ailments and comforts become reasons for unhappiness. When
an inner happiness (comfort of Your Name) is felt within then unhappiness
vanishes. God you are unfathomable Creator of all this and it is beyond my
understanding to know all your secrets. O God I cannot know all your secrets
and I pay my obeisance to the Lord who resides in His own Creation.
Your Light is spread in all your own Creation. All the mortals
have your Light. You are there, existing without any discrimination in
everyone. You are Immortal and whoever has praised You have crossed the worldly
ocean. He does what pleases Him and none can interfere in His Creation. O
Nanak, just praise Him because He is doing whatever pleases Him.
Sodar Raag Asa Mahala 1
There is but One God. By the True Guru’s Grace He is
obtained.
O Lord, which is that door, which is that House? Wherein you
are sitting and organizing everything. Where countless music instruments and
singers are playing and singing, the countless measures along with their
consorts (raag and raageeni) praising and singing. Wind, water and fire and
even the Judge of righteousness are singing your praises. Chit-Gupt two
recoding angels are consulting the righteous judge and recording. Shiva, Brahma
and the Godess who are all adorned beautifully by you are singing your praises.
Indra sitting on His throne along with all His Gods and Goddesses are singing
your praises. In their meditative mood the Sidhas (who have attained all
powers) and the Saints who are continuously contemplating sing your praises as
well. People who abandon desires and become truthful and content and those who
become fearless knights all are singing your praises. All the Pundits or
scholars who had been reading the Vedas in all ages and Rishis their writers
are singing your praises. All those enchanting women who charm in the paradise,
this world and the world under are singing your praises. All the fourteen invaluable
objects created by you (that mortals seek to possess) and the 68 pilgrimages ( the Pundits assigned as
duty in a life time to visit to achieve liberation of soul), mighty warriors,
divine heroes and all four sources (continents) of creation are singing your
praises. All the continents, the universe and the solar systems created by your
hand are eulogizing you and your glories. They are also eulogizing the saints
who are pleasing to your because they immerse themselves in your Name and love.
Many others whom I cannot recollect in my mind are singing your praises. Can Nanak
contemplate? That and that Lord alone is truth, He is True and His Name is
True. That Lord who has created the whole Creation is there and always be there
even when all that He created may not be there, He will still be there. He has
created in such diverse forms and colours that all looks like illusions. After
the creation of this world as it pleases His honour He is watching His own handiwork.
Whatever pleases Him he does that because no one can issue orders to Him. He is
the King, the Emperor of the Kings and Nanak remains subject to His Will (pauri
1).
