Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Rehras Sahib 8
Raag Asa
Mahala 4 continues: Infinite and innumerable treasures of devotion are full to
brim. The devotees worship and praise their Lord in so many different ways;
some practice penances, some sit in deep meditation, some read smiritis,
shastras and perform rituals prescribed within these religious books in all six
ways of religion and other rites. All those Saints are sublime O my auspicious
Master by whose worship and praises You are pleased II4II
You are the
primal Being, the most excellent Creator, none can be greater then You. In all
ages You remained the same One, never changing and ever stable Creator. You
yourself have created the whole universe and fashioned it to what shall come
and what shall go. You accomplish and then destroy. Nanak shall become slave to
Such a Creator who knows all and everything II5II1II
Asa Mahala
4: You are the true Creator O my Lord Master.
Only that happens what pleases You and I receive what You give me
IIRahaoII All are yours and they meditate on you but with the mercy of
your grace the jewels of Your Name are obtained only by those with whom you are
pleased. The pious and Lord oriented (Gurmukh) get Your Name and the self
willed (manmukh) lose it. But the mortals have no control over Your Will, You
separate them from yourself and unite them with You at will II2II You are like
that vast River that takes in all. There is none other like You. All the
sentient beings (people who can feel) are your play things. The separated
beings get united again ( because of your play). The men whom you cause to
understand you, they understand you O Lord and then they utter and repeat your
Name O Lord. He, who has served You has obtained peace and easily gets absorbed
in You and your Name II3II
