Pranaam Shahida Nu

Today, on the martyrs day of Guru Arjun Dev ji who sacrificed his life for walking on the path of humanity and righteousness and who set the trend of sacrificing own life for the purpose of righteousness that was not only followed by other Gurus but ordinary Sikh men and women I remember my school book of history and feel ashamed that what we were taught was so false and incorrect. I remember the lesson in Mogul history on Emperor Jahangir that showed him in the light of goodness and justice that he had a bell outside his palace and anybody seeking justice could ring that and get justice. How could he give justice when he himself has written about his own cruel rule in his Tuzak Jahangiri. In this book he has written about Guru Arjun ji in following para: “ In Goindwal  settled on River Beas was a Hindu named Arjun who lived in the garb of Pir and wise man. He made not only innocent Hindus but many Muslim his followers and makes loud claims of his being Wali and Pir. People call him Guru. All goons and conmen come and shower their faith in him. Three to four generations of them have opened this shop of faith. Since long I am contemplating that this shop of falsehood and lies must be shut and this Guru be brought under Islam. I summoned him to come and asked Murtaza Khan to punish him according to the rules of the governance by taking all his assets and possessions.”

Guru Arjun was summoned to Lahore by Murtaza Khan by orders of Emperor Jahangir. Emperor himself went away to Kashmir and the whole episode was kept very secret. The news of his summons spread like wildfire in Lahore where Guru ji had stayed eight months and helped needy during a famine and epidemic. Hindus and Muslims all loved him for his selfless service to humanity irrespective of caste and religion. A very religious and God fearing Muslim Mian Mir who also laid the foundation stone of Harmandir Sahib was informed but it was too late as the secret mission of Emperor Jahangir, Caste conscious Minister Chandu and Governor Murtaza Khan was accomplished. When Mia Mir reached the torture cell Guru ji had undergone the torture of sitting on hot tawa and hot sand pouring on him and then made to sit in boiling hot water. Satnaam Waheguru was the only words coming out the mouth of this holy person. So fierce was the fear of rulers that they feared his last rites according to his religion. They threw his body in River Ravi. According to Islamic tribes when a holy person is given torture and if his blood spills or buried there are chances that each drop of his blood could create thousand more like him. So Guru ji was not given a descent last rite instead his body was thrown in water.
