Inner Strength - 10

In many parts of Punjab massya or Amawas is not only associated with the holy dip in the waters but many villages having direct access on main roads have a tradition of serving langar to all the passers-by. They have built langar halls on the road at the main gate of the village and every Amawas they cook and serve langar. I have never understood the significance of this tradition but to me it seems more of an entertainment than any religious importance. They almost force people stop their cars or other vehicles to have langar. If you visit all the homes in these villages you will find that many old couples are surviving on bare minimum and sometimes they don't have any food to cook.  Why in the name of some unnecessary traditions we waste so much food on the road sides to feed people who can afford food and let some uncared old couples and dalits go without food? Serving food in a langar is not charity in Sikhism because Guru Nanak were strictly against charities. Because charities create a sub human race of people whom we call beggars. Being a baggar means you loose your self-esteem .Langar should be served in Gurudwaras only where people come from far-off places for the congregation, some duties(karseva) to perform and where missionary work is going on or on Gurparabs only. Langar should be cooked by people irrespective of caste and class and also served in the same manner. Langar cooked by the velhas and served to velhas will not earn any points in the dargah of the Almighty.
