A fad to perform Akhand Paath at home is reaching new meaningless dimensions. For some it is show of power, for some it is show of money and for some it is compulsion because at a slightest trouble like sickness, heart attack, accident they wish an Akhand Paath for trouble shooting. One of our relative touched new height, he had wished Akhand Paath for two different incidents like one for an accident and one for getting cured from a sickness. He decided to perform both at the same time so that he can save on langar expenses. For performing both the Paath he selected one big room and brought two granth sahib ji and two sets of Paathis and two sets of Pothi readers. Can you imagine the chaotic scene when all are reading at the same time. Don't you think that this is all nonsense. How do you plan the samapati of various paath at the same room? What are the Granthis doing? Can't they beat some sense in these ignorant people and tell them that one Akhand Paath is enough for all wishes. Why Granthis are only after money and let all the nonsense happen and why can't they stop the insult of a holy book in such grotesque manner. Is there no teaching of Rehat to these Granthis? Why do Gurudwara Prabandhak committees keep their eyes shut to all such nonsense happening in the name of Akhand Paath? Firstly Akhand Paath at home is a wrong tradition because they were to be performed by Singhs during war to consolidate the strength into the wariors as reminder that they are going to lay their lives for fighting for just cause and the rights of humanity. The tradition of Akhand Paath was always done for a common cause. At home we are supposed to perform sehaj paath so that every body get into the flow of listening to Gurbani.
