Punjabis are quite famous for adopting new technologies and gadgetries. Any new gadget that comes to the market has reached homes of Punjabis like the fire in the jungle. Misuse of these gadgets does not even bother the majority of the people. One such gadget is loud speaker. Use of it rather misuse of it has reached each and every village. Mostly the use is arbitrary and any one opposing it gets sneers from the so called leaders or mohtbars of the village. Even the Panchayat and police wash their hands off such issues saying it is religious matter. The supreme court orders or the orders of DC are not heeded.The stubborn or arbitrary type of people never let the civil behaviour take over. Stubborn or nasty power always helps to suppress the civil or humble requests. Our village is surrounded by 6 villages at the distance of 2-3 kilometers and from the Gurudwara roof tops of all six villages Asa di War recitation starts at 3.30 A M .Even Harmandir Sahib starts recitation at 5.30 AM. Just imagine the noise pollution early in the morning from 6 Gurdwaras with 4 loud speakers each with highest possible decibel volume. What can sick, old, insomniac, students, working class people do with so much disturbance. Our village Baba use to demand money and Karah Prasad material in loud speaker. Apart from the Gurudwara loudspeakers even the people performing Akhand paath at home make misuse of loud speakers and they sometimes don't even stop after Rehiras time. Our Sarpanch uses loudspeaker all night at full volume for Akhand Paath. Does it mean that common and civil sense is dying in our Society? For quite some time Sikhs have started wishing boons of a son from Mata da darbar. And these Darbars in villages are not held by Pundits but by Mazhabi Sikhs and they sing the praises of Mata Rani and her boon giving powers all night in full volume. There is no respite from noise pollution in the villages. I don't think any religion gives you permission to disturb others all night. We just make things look like religious but it is the evil in us that satisfies our ego by troubling others and enjoying the perversity.
