Inner Strength - 7
I happen to be in a village of a close relative for Akhand Paath samapati. The paath was carried by normal pathis but the Samapati function was proceeded by a Sant from Nirmal Kutiya. He gave lecture on preachings from Gurbani but I was intrigued by his dressing of a chola with a rudraksh mala around his neck. I had read about the Nirmal Kutiya dera. According to my information Guru Gobind Singh ji had sent some of his Sikhs to Benares for the study of Vedas and other Hindu scriptures and they were supposed to do a comparative study of Hindu scriptures and Gurbani. When these people returned they established their own panth and never allowed any one to see the comparative scriptures they had prepared. They teach only to people who wholly adopt their cult. Anyway I asked my relative to seat me next to this Sant for food. They took us to a separate room ( He didn't want to sit in a pangat for langar) an old lady who was accompanying him washed his feet and dried with her duppatta, then washed her hands and served him food. The chappattis served to him were cooked separately. Once his food was over I asked for his permission to ask few questions.I asked him why is he getting his feet washed by an elderly lady? he was barely 35 years old himself. He just shrugged his shoulders and no answer. I asked him why is he not sitting in a pangat to have his langar and why he wants to be treated like a Pundit. He was feeling very awkward by now with showers of my questions. He just got up and left though didn't let the people know that he is angry. You see it is so easy to establish brahmanical traditions back amongst ignorant people. For most people someone wearing a chola is a Baba and must be followed according to his established traditions and at that moment someone holy in front of them is important and if one fellow starts offering money all others will follow. We very easily forget the purpose of Gurus that they wanted us to emancipate from the web of Pundits that was taking us to superstitions and ignorance. I observed that most people just want to listen to the sakhis of Gurus and do not learn the Gurbani.
