Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth sahib – 12
Sawan saras manna ghann

In sawan be happy o my soul. The season has come when the
clouds rain. I love my spouse with my soul and body but my darling has gone abroad.
My beloved comes not home and I am dying of sorrow of separation, the flash of
lightening frightens me.

In bhadon the bride in the bloom of youth strays in doubt but
she regrets afterwards. The ponds and meadows are filled with water and it is
time for merry making. It rains during the dark night. How can the young bride
have peace? The pied cuckoo calls priye- priye and the snakes are on their
biting spree. The ponds are filled to the brim and mosquitoes are stinging.
Without the Lord how can the wife obtain comfort?
Aage ghaam pichhe
rut jadda dekh chalet man dole II dahu disi sakh hari haryaval sahaj pakke so

Summer is left behind and the winter lies ahead. There is
verdant greenery all around and the boughs are green and laden. That ripens slowly
is sweeter. Meet me O Lord in the month of Assu, the true guru has become my mediator.
Katuk kirat payia jo

In the month of katak what pleases the Lord is recorded in
the mortal’s destiny. The lamp that gets enlightened by the knowledge and truth
of His Being burns easily. Love is the oil of the lamp that unites the bride
with her groom.
Manghar maah bhala har

Good is the month of maghar for those who merge in the Lords
Being by singing His praises. Virtuous wife utters the Lords praise. My ever
stable Love is pleasing to me.
