Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Sukhmani Sahib   -   20
Shloke: He, in whose mind The True Lord resides, who utters the Name of the True Lord from his mouth, who sees no one else but only the Universal One Lord. O Nanak these are the qualities of the Brahm Gyani (person who has understood the knowledge about God).
Ashtapadi 8 begins: Brahmgyani becomes unattached from all falsehood (still glows with the knowledge of God) like the Lotus flower that grows in water but spreads its beauty independent of water. Brahmgyani has no blemishes just like sun that gives comfort to all energy to all so that life continues). Brahmgyani beholds everyone equal just like wind that blows alike on King and the poor. Brahmgyani has patience just like earth some dig it and other paste it with sandalwood. This is the attribute of a Brahmgyani. O Nanak, this is the inherent quality of fire that purifies everything (pad 1).
Brahmgyani (God awakened) is purest of pure as filth cannot attach with water (when soil or any other filth is mixed with water it settles down and clear water shows again). The mind of the Brahmgyani is enlightened just like the skies above the earth. For Brahmgyani friend and foe are equal. Brahmgyani has no pride. Brahmgyani becomes highest of the high. Still within his mind he is the most humble. Nanak, only those persons become Brahmgyani (God divines) whom the Lord has willed to be (pad 2).
Brahmgyani is the dust of all. Brahmgyani feels the spiritual bliss. Brahmgyani is kind to all. Brahmgyani does not think evil of anyone. Brahmgyani is always impartial. Brahmgyan with his glance showers nectar on all. Brahmgyani has freed himself from all bindings’. Brahmgyani has purest way of life. Brahmgyani’s food is knowledge.  O Nanak, Brahmgyani is absorbed in the meditation of the Lord (pad 3).
Brahmgyani has hope only in One Master (Ek Onkar), Brahmgyani has no fear of doom, Brahmgyani is merged with humility, Brahmgyani is delighted to serve others or be philanthropic, Brahmgyani is beyond worldly entanglements, Brahmgyani reigns on his wandering mind, Brahmgyani becomes heavenly high, Brahmgyani thrives well and in their company all are exalted. Nanak the whole world praises the Brahmgyani (because he has reached that state of mind where he seems to be closest to the Lord). (Pad 4).
