The Guru-oriented has the knowledge of Shastras, Smritis and Vedas. It is easy for the Guru-oriented to know the mysteries of the hearts. The Guru-ward effaces the enmity and envy. The Guru-ward does not keep any account for the reckoning day because he is imbued with love for Lord. O Nanak, the Guru-ward has realized the True Lord II 37 II
Without Guru one wanders in transmigration. Without Guru’s instructions the hard work put in all the service makes mind restless. Without Guru, Man is not sated and that causes symptoms of eating poison. Without Guru the delusions sting like a poisonous snake and man dies half way. O Nanak, without Guru Man suffers only losses II 38 II
He, whom the Guru meets him, He ferries across, the Guru washes off his sins and his virtues emancipate him, reflecting over the Guru’s Word the supreme bliss of emancipation is attained. The God- oriented does not suffer any defeat ever. O Nanak, the body is a shop wherein mind is a merchant who through poise (balance) start dealing in True merchandise (of His Name) II 39 II
The Guru is the bridge built by the God, the destiny Scribe. Through Him the wickedness of the demons was annihilated and Lanka was destroyed. The Ramchander of the mind slays the pride of the Rawan because the Guru-ward Bhibhikan (Vibhishan) disclosed the secret. The Guru-ward ferries across the ocean even the stones (the stone bridge over ocean connecting Sri Lanka). The Guru-ward thus can save even the 33 crores (330 millions) of humanity II 40 II

For the Guru-ward oriented man the rebirth cycle stops and he is honoured in God’s court because he is able to distinguish between right and wrong. Reaching this stage, he is able to concentrate on his attention to the Creator Lord. Singing the praises of the Lord a pious person merges in the Lord’s Court and O Nanak, he is freed from all the bondages II 41 II

Imbued with the name the self conceit is stilled. Imbued with the Name one remains merged in the True Lord. Imbued with the Name the pious ones reflect over the ways of union with the Lord. Imbued with the Name the door to salvation is found. Imbued with the Name a mortal gains the knowledge about three worlds. Nanak, imbued with the Name one gets eternal peace II 32 II
Imbued with the Name a dialogue with the men of miracles (Siddhas) become possible. Imbued with Name some seek the path of penance. Imbued with the Name the way of life becomes true and sublime. They, who are imbued with the Name, reflect upon the Lords virtues and knowledge. Without reflecting on Lord’s Name all said and done is useless. Nanak, hail all those who are imbued with the Lord’s Name II 33 II
It is through the perfect Guru that the Lord’s name should be attained. To merge in the True Lord is the only way to Yoga. The yogis wander in twelve sects (divided – they are not united even in their own belief and art to attain the True Lord) the solitarians (Sanyasis) in six and four. By Guru’s instructions he, who remains dead in life, he obtains the door to salvation. Without the Name all are attached to duality (when doubt about the Only Creator Lord enters the mind, man seeks another source to solace and the origin of duality begins). Reflect in the mind and see.
Magnificent and supremely fortunate are those O Nanak who keep the True Lord clasped to their heart II 34 II
Enshrining love for the Lord in mind a God-conscious person finds the jewel like God. That love for Lord makes him understand and recognize the worth of jewel like God easily. The God-oriented being starts doing truthful deeds. The soul of God-oriented is pleased and he offers himself whole heartedly. The Lord is pleased with such God-oriented person and if he likes He makes Himself visible to him. O Nanak the god-conscious never suffers II 35 II
The pious person gets blessed with the Name, charity (of making others aware of the true One’s Name) and purity. The pious person remains attached to One lord and gets honoured in His Court. Thus the pious, God-oriented person attains the Supreme Lord who is destroyer of dread. The God-oriented earns the fruit of his good deeds and actions and thus O Nanak, the pious becomes united to the Lord II 36 II

The God- conscious is engrossed in reflecting upon the knowledge about God. Being satisfied by the grace of the Guru he is able to cross the rivulet of his world. He, who is satisfied by Guru’s grace, becomes knowledgeable Wiseman of Guru’s word. Being satisfied by Guru’s grace the God-conscious comes to know the inner way of life. By Guru’s grace one attains Invisible, Infinite Lord. O Nanak the God-conscious then attains the door of salvation II 28 II
The God-conscious being utters the unutterable Divine experiences. Living with his family the God-conscious practices righteousness. The God-conscious contemplates on his love from within for the Lord. The God-conscious obtains the Name and good conduct. He, who has understood the mystery of His Name, makes others conscious of it. Burning his ego he has merged in the Lord, O Nanak II 29 II
The True Lord has created this earth for the pious people (who believe in Him). Therein He has established a play of birth and death. The one who is imbued with the Lord’s Name also enshrines love for the Lord. He, who is imbued with the truth, also goes home with honour because without imbibing the true love for the True Lord one do not obtain honour. Nanak, without Name how can one get absorbed in the True Lord II 30 II
By Guru’s grace one obtains the eight miraculous powers and all wisdom. By Guru’s grace one obtains the true understanding and crosses the terrible world ocean. The Guru-conscious knows the difference between truth and untruth. The Guru-conscious knows the difference between worldliness and renunciation. The Guru-conscious being is emancipated and ferries others across. The God-conscious understands the word of God and with its help ferries across II 31 II

From Formless the Lord assumed the Immaculate Form and from Attribute- lessness He became One with attributes. By pleasing the True Lord the mortal attains the supreme status and merges in the True Name. The one who knows only the True Lord and obliterates his ego and duality he alone is a yogi and by understanding the Word of Lord his heart enlightens like a lotus flower that stands in water without getting wet.
Guru says; being dead while still alive or in life (meaning the way a dead man loses all his senses to what is happening around him same way  dead to all vices, self conceit etc.) or closing your mind to all wayward atmosphere you grow inward understanding everything within mind and realize the presence of merciful Lord. Nanak, he alone obtains honour who realizes himself amongst all the beings II 24 II
The one who realizes himself becomes true. He has emerged from the True and merges into the Truth as well. The pure one becomes one and same with the True Lord.
The false one finds no place to rest. Through duality (having doubts start looking for another) the continuation of their coming and going never ends. Through Guru’s instruction the rebirth cycle or transmigration of souls ends because the True Lord Himself examines and pardons.
The one who gets afflicted to the malady of another’s love forgets that God’s home is the home for elixir. He understands whom the God makes understand and by Guru’s instructions he gets emancipated. Nanak, the God floats across the mortal who stills his ego and duality II 25 II
The ego-centric have gone astray and live under the reign of death. They eye on other’s home and suffer great losses. The doubt has engulfed them and they wander in wilderness. The wayward gone a strayed from the Divine path become evil minded and perform black magic by reading evil mantras at grave yards gets plundered in the end. He does not reflect upon the Name and recites obscene words. He alone who is imbued with the True Name knows what peace is, O Nanak II 26 II
The God oriented knows the fear of Lord. The speech of the God-oriented becomes sweet. The God-oriented sings the hymns of praises of the Immaculate Lord. Thus the God-oriented attains the pure supreme status. The God oriented being remembers the True Lord from every cell of his body and attains the merging into the True Lord II 27 II

Yogis ask: What is your view about the beginning of this world? Where was the Profound Lord then abiding? What are said to be the ear-rings of gnosis? Who is it that abides in all hearts? How can the stroke of death fended off? How can one enter the home of fearlessness? How can one obtain bliss and contentment? How can adversaries (ego, lust, wrath, avarice, greed) be slain?
Says the Guru: If man knows God, the seat of bliss and contentment and through Guru’s word, effaces his ego and sin then he abides in his own home of fearlessness.
If one realizes the Name of Him who has created the Creation, Nanak then becomes his slave II 21 II
The Yogis question: Where from the man has come? Whither does he go? Where does he remain merged himself?
He who understands the meaning of this divine discourse; him we call the Guru, who has not an iota of avarice.
How can one obtain the formless Reality?
How can he enshrine the love for God through Guru?
He who Himself is the Hearer and Himself the Creator; O Nanak, what says thou regarding His explanation?
Says the Nanak: Man originates from the Lord’s command. He goes back to where is His will. He remains merged in the Lord’s Will.
By practising truth and realizing the Lord’s dignity and worth, he is blessed with the Lord’s love by the Perfect Guru II 22 II
As for the origin of man one can only talk and think continuously but Profound Lord did exist within Himself (His own self).
Note: This is explained as Nirgun and Sargun in Guru Granth Sahib.
Desirelessness, knowledge of the True Lord becomes the ear-rings – the gnosis of the Guru. The True Lord abides in everybody’s heart. By hearing Guru’s Bani man merges easily in to the Pure and Formless Lord.
The Sikh who serves Guru and not another finds his way to slay all doubts O Nanak (there is only One True Lord and all others are His creation. A true Sikh is supposed to believe only in that True Lord).
Wondrous is His Will, the great listener and Creator, He alone knows His command and truly understands the way of life of His beings.

He who effaces his ego and self conceit and becomes detached, enshrines the True Lord in his mind is the True Yogi II 23 II
Not so shocking News
India's envoy to New Zealand have to leave the country as his wife abuses the domestic help. Inhuman behaviour with domestic helps by highly educated Indians is not a news for us Indians. We consider it prerogative of rich and mighty and those in power. Same domestic help dare not complain in India but those who travel outside and see human behaviour and courtesy in the countries with higher regards for humans start complaining for equal or say human rights. These diplomats don't like the awakening of theses domestic help and become nervous of their handicap that they can't work and try to be more strict.Their poor mind set of having slaves at any cost bounces back at them.
Why do these diplomats should have 24 hrs. domestic help in the first place? They can always hire local help for few hrs.The tax payer has to pay huge amounts for upkeep of these diplomats and then they abuse the law brazenly. What a shame and what an outdated custom of sending domestic helps from India to these foreign countries?
Modi ji are you listening?

If a man fixes his soul continuously to Lord’s Name then his swan like mind doesn't fly and his wall like body doesn't fall. He then becomes balanced like a cave and makes the Name his real home. Nanak the true Lord loves true people II 16 II
To this Yogi questions: What is the reason that forsaking your home you have become hermit?
What is the reason that you have adopted this dress? Of what merchandise are you the customer? How are you going to ferry across your followers? II 17 II
Guru Nanak says: In search of saints I have become a hermit. For the sake of Lord’s vision I have adopted this dress. I am the trader of the true merchandise (Truth). With the Guru’s grace I shall ferry my following across II 18 II
Yogis ask: What path has inspired you to change the course of your life?
To what have you attached your mind to? What have you done to still your hope and your desire? How did you enlighten yourself from within? How can man eat iron without teeth? O Nanak give your true opinion on these II 19 II
The Guru answers: Being born in the true Guru’s home I have changed my life’s course and ended my wandering (in search of truth). I have tinged my mind to the celestial strains. My desire and hope are burnt with the Name. By the Guru’s grace I have found the light within me. Effacing the three modes (Optimisms, egoism and pessimism) man can eat iron without teeth. Thus, O Nanak the emancipator Himself emancipates the mortal II 20 II

The Yogis say; wear the religious garb of the sect of Gorakh the Lord of the Yogis, take up the ear-rings, begging bowl and patched coat. Out of the six schools of philosophy, ours is the one school that has twelve sects of Yoga. From amongst these twelve sects you adopt ‘Ai’ sect. In this way mind is instructed O mortal and you don’t suffer any strokes II 9 II
Nanak says; By Guru’s grace the Lord is realized and only in the following way the real yoga is attained. With incessant enshrining of the Name in your mind and by renunciation of ego and attachment that are your ear-rings, discard your lust, wrath and self conceit. You shall be blessed with sublime understanding by Guru’s grace. Make your begging bowl and your patched coat from this understanding that the Lord is all pervading. Once you have this understanding you shall realize that Lord is the only truth and His word is true as well II 10 II
Make your begging bowl your turning away from this world, your cap to be essence of five elements (earth, the air, the water, the fire, and the sky). Keep your body alerts by your grass matting and minds control your loin cloth. Let chastity, contentment and self discipline be your disciples or companions. Becoming God –oriented like this O Nanak the mortal contemplates the Name (of God) II 11 II
The Yogis question: Who is un-manifest? Who is emancipated? Who is united from within and without? Who is he who comes and goes? Who is He, which is pervading the three worlds? II 12 II
Guru Nanak answers: He, who permeates all hearts, is un- manifest.  The Guru- ward or God conscious is emancipated and he the Guru-ward is united with Lord from within and without. The ego-centric perishes and is subject to coming and going (Cycle rebirth continues for him) in this world. Nanak, the Guru-ward knows that the True Lord is pervading all three worlds II 13 II
The yogis ask: How is one bound and devoured by mammon the she serpent? How does one lose? How does one gains? How one does becomes pure? How is darkness removed? He, who understands this reality, is our religious preceptor II 14 I
Guru answers: The evil intellect binds one then he is eaten up by the snake (delusions or maya). An apostate (manmukh) loses the pious person gains. Meeting the True Lord man’s darkness is dispelled. Nanak who abandons his ego becomes pure and merges in the Lord II 15 II

Tribute to Banda Singh Bahadur on his martyr day
Banda Singh Bahadur an emissary of Guru Gobind Singh ji came to Punjab organized Sikhs and started wielding his sword. So fierce was his action that one by one Mogul territory started finishing, the reign of terror started to crumble. Though he was taken captive and punished with death but the challenge to mighty Mogul created an organization skill in Sikhs and also a sentiment that we can achieve the most difficult and overpower the mightiest and regenerate the glory. The Sikhs were fiercely persecuted by the Mogul that they had to live in forests to save themselves and for a long time they went into hiding to come out as various Misals that ultimately became Sikh Empire. Sikh Empire until the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh remained invincible. The foundation of Khalsa that was laid by Guru Gobind Singh ji had now become a power to reckon with. The intrigue and list of British could make the power slip from the hands of Sikh Empire but soon they stood against the British for freedom of the country and their Gurudwaras. The freedom movement was started from the land of Khalsa. A heritage of martyrdom started once again and thousand of Sikh men and women laid their lives once again for the justice and common cause of the community. If one contemplates on Sikh Ardas it is a unique feature because we dedicate daily to the thousands of men and women who laid their lives for dharma and became immortal martyrs.
There may be many shortcomings in today’s Sikh community but once there is need Khalsa has always stood up for the common cause such was the transformation that Guruji affected by creating the Khalsa. The psyche of people changed forever and community, religion, politics and country became part of our think process which was not the case in earlier Hindu society where majority was downtrodden, fearful and condemned to think that their birth was a sin.

The Yogis say: The world ocean is said to be impassable, how can one cross it?
Charpat yogi says: O Nanak! Deliberate on it and give a true answer.
Nanak answers: He, who says that he himself understands, what answer can I give? The fact is that I cannot give answer to someone who thinks he has reached yonder shore (pargrami) II 4 II
As a lotus flower remains unaffected in water, as also a duck swim against the stream current and becomes not wet, same way by concentrating on Lord’s Name O Nanak the dreadful world ocean is crossed.
He, who lives in loneliness abiding only One Lord’s Name in his mind, living without desire in the midst of desires and sees and shows others the Inaccessible and Incomprehensible Lord, of such Lord this Nanak is a slave II 5 II
On this yogis say: We pray O Lord and ask you of your true opinion. Take it not ill and give us a suitable answer. How can one arrive at the great God’s door?
Nanak answers to this: Through the Name’s (God’s) supports the wandering mind sits in its true home and enshrine love for Lord and then the creator Himself unites and merges in His beloved II 6 II
The Yogis say: We abandon all our businesses and wander away from the main routes we come to abide in forests, live under trees and plants. We make bulbs and roots as our meal. This is the gnosis that the yogis utter, we bathe at holy places and obtain the fruit of peace and not an iota of filth attaches to us. Loharipa the disciple of Gorakh Nath yogi says; this is the only way to unite with the Lord II 7 II
To this Guru Nanak says: At home and during your wanderings you let your mind awake and let not the envy of others home come to your mind. Without meditating on His (Lord’s) Name the wandering mind is not comforted and its hunger not satiated O Nanak. My Guru (Lord) has shown me the shop and my home within me where I deal in true business. I sleep little and eat little. This O Nanak is the quintessence idea of true yoga II 8 II

Raag Ramkali Mahala 1 Ang 938;
There is but One God. By the grace of the true Guru, He is obtained.
The men of miracle forming an assembly are sitting on their seats and said to Guru.” Make thou salutation to this assembly of saints.” Guru answers; my salutation is to only to Him, who is the True, Infinite and extremely Exquisite. I cut off my head and lay before Him and surrender my body and soul to Him. Nanak says, by meeting the saint Guru the True Lord is obtained and one is spontaneously blessed with glory II 1 II
What good is of wandering about? It is through the truth about true Lord’s Name that makes man pure. Without the True name no one is emancipated II 2 II Rahao II
When the Yogis hear this they ask Nanak:
Question: who are you? What is your Name? Which sect do you belong to? And what is your life object? We pray that you tell us the truth because we always pay obeisance to the saintly people. Another yogi asks;
Q: Where is your seat? Where is your residence o boy (Balak) ?
Q: Where have you come from? Where are you going? What is your way?
Nanak answers: The lord is within all the hearts. In Him is my seat, in Him is my abode, I walk in the true Guru’s Will and this alone is my sect. I have proceeded from God. I shall proceed according to His Will (Hukam) and follow His directions. My name is Nanak and I am an  obeyer of God’s order. To be seated in the Imperishable Lord’s contemplative mood is my way. The attainment of such a transcendent Comprehension is my life object. Knowing and recognizing myself by true Guru’s grace I have merged in the truest of the True II 3 II

A dialogue with Sidhas
This offshoot- yogis of shaivism though believed in Shiva as their supreme God but developed different school of thoughts. There are believed to be 12 sects or school of thoughts of this Yogi cult of Hinduism. The members of these cults are people of escapist nature who shirk away from their social duties. They don’t like to contribute to the organized family structure where every adult member contributes to the upkeep of family and social norms. These lazy kinds of people sometimes leave their small children and walk away from the family unit and join band wagon of  Yogis who beg from the householders to live and don’t believe in working for their living. They are mostly meat eaters and addicted to various types of intoxicants. For begging they disguise themselves in garbs of religious colours like orange and golden yellow, wearing a head gear, big ear-rings, carrying a big jhola – a type cloth bag that is put on shoulders to collect alms and begging bowl. They covered themselves with ashes with a mark of shaivism on their forehead and a necklace of rudraksha beads around their neck. They covered their lower body with loin cloth. They meditated on shiva and through yogic practices developed control of several body parts, senses and some could develop certain powers. They believed in Shiva’s third eye that opened in anger and that they used as tool to subjugate people under their fear to extract alms. This subjugation was not difficult to invoke fear in already divided, caste ridden, and superstitious people. They were successful in making an image for themselves in a weakened and downtrodden society that a curse or boon is in their hand and choice is yours. Alms were thus easily extracted. By the tenth century a yogi named Gorakh had established himself as Supreme head of all the twelve sects. In northern India these Yogis wandered from one pilgrimage centre to another in large groups. They added Nath or Das with their Names. After the various invasions of Islamists from Afghanistan, Mongolia and western Asia they started hiding themselves in forests and away from main routes of communications where from invaders were travelling. For their living they were still dependent on householders (grahast). Guru Nanakji’s birth place Talwandi was away from main routes of invaders and these Yogis and several wandering sects of Sadhus took refuge there and begged for alms. Guruji had several encounters with these wandering people and interacted with them to know about the condition of the rest of the country.
In adulthood when Guruji travelled (his travels are known as Udasis in Sikh history that has nothing to do with udasi Sadhus cult that wander away from the worldly affairs and believe only in meditations and maintaining silence. Guru Nanak ji’s udasi were for understanding the state of affairs, political and social conditions of the country and visiting the places of all those saintly people who tried to bring change in the downtrodden state of larger humanity in this country. To know why there was division in the society and why there was so much subjugation and resignation in the mental state of people. Why self pride, honour, confidence and love for the country went missing? Why Indians were not united and how could foreign invaders took upper hand? Why Indians could be terrorized? Why there was so much greed for that religious freedom, self pride was put at stake? His udasi or travels bring us treasures of his experiences and answers to all those questions that he asked the Almighty. The graciousness of Almighty was bestowed on Guru Nanak and we are blessed with Gurbani that teaches us the purpose of human life) he met these Yogis several times in his life at various places during several of his travels. At every encounter they tried to persuade Guru Nanak to join their cult and become one of them. Guru Nanaks ji had welfare and emancipation of humanity as agenda on his mind and how could he join selfish people who had only self emancipation and union with Lord on their mind. They were arrogant, egoistic and boastful of their knowledge that they acquired in the practice of Yoga by controlling their sense organs. Guru Nanak ji had already started his missionary Endeavour and propagated One-ness of God, earning and sharing your living with the needy, live a life without fear and malice, maintain self esteem and pride and treat human being equal. They were exactly opposite of Guru Nanak’s belief as they lived on other people’s earning while they were young and strong to work and earn living, they exercised supernatural powers and thus trying to make themselves above God’s will and they used these supernatural powers to create fear and superstitions to make a living, they were arrogant because while living on alms from the householders they graded them lower than themselves and used curse and boon as tools to instill fear. Guru ji never appreciated their way of life because they were not serving humanity or making people stronger to fight the evil designs of foreign invaders rather running away, begging and hiding themselves selfishly in forests and away from civilization. Guru ji had dialogue with these Yogis or Siddhas several times  and reprimanded them for their selfishness. After his last travel Guru Nanak ji settled at a village on the Bank of ravi river that he called as Kartarpur (City of the Creator). He settled there and called his family to come and live with him. People started visiting him there and he lived for all that he preached. He became a farmer to earn his living, started a langar a community kitchen to feed all the people who visited him and everyone had to share the cooking, washing and feeding irrespective of caste or status thus bringing a feeling of brotherhood in his followers. He preached, sang gurbani and also finalized many of his poetry here prominent among them Asa di vaar, Barahmaha, Onkar, Sidh Gosht and many more. Towards the end of his life Guru Nanak ji visited a Shivratri fair at Achal- Batala where this fair is attended by Yogis from all over the country. The yogis were very jealous of Guru Nanak’s achievements as many people had started following him for his selfless service to humanity, his independent thinking that was not influenced by any dogmatic religious beliefs, his achieving the perfect human status when God is pleased and blesses you with a union with Himself. They decided to corner Guru Nanak ji to make fun of him and defeat him in discussion. They address him as balak a small child and pose questions to him on purpose of life. Guru Nanak ji had blessings of Almighty, he was fearless, and stable in his belief of Almighty and worked out the Will of Almighty. He defeated these Yogis with his truthfulness and love for God and his Creation.
Siddha Gosht is documented in Guru Granth Sahib in Raag Ramkali on page 938 onwards.

A word about Yogis and Sidhas: In his first sermon after the enlightenment Gautama Buddha asked his disciples to guise as Bhikshu or beggars, go door to door, seek alms and in that process spread the message of peace, equality of all human beings by doing away with the Brahmanical caste system and appropriation of superiority for Brahmin. These Bhikhshus were asked to live away from the civilization and main routes of communications but remain close near villages to seek alms and spread the message of Gautama the Buddha. These Bhikshus found many such places where large number of villages clustered away from main centers of civilization like towns and cities or political interference. This evidence is available all over India if we look at the main centers for Buddhist development like 2200 year old caves with Buddha viharas known as Karla- Bhaje caves in rock cut architecture near Pune, Mumbai and Ajanta-Ellora near Aurangabad. The Monks who traveled with these Bhikhshus found refuge in mountains where natural water resources were available and plenty of well to do villages for alms. In the course of time the word of Buddha was spread and patronage of wealthy people became available. With money flowing in the Monks started making Viharas around their habitats with ornamental rock cut architecture and build beautiful and mighty structures that helped them to spread their mission away from the political interference of Kings and their powerful patronage of Brahmins who looked into the matter of state as administrators. The word of Buddha was spread like a silent revolution because soon Buddhism acquired State patronage and many Kings converted to Buddhism and influence of Brahmin was lost. In those times the religion of Kings was the state religion so the conversion process for commoners was not necessary. This way Buddhism stayed as main stream religion of India for many centuries, right up to third century. But the Brahman made his come back and Hindu renaissance took place and to make Hinduism interesting again lot of Buddhist ways were adopted some of them are – temples in rock cut architecture, storytelling and iconology that is making idols of Gods and goddesses and establishing them in temples. Lot of mythological stories was written in form of Puranas, Mahabharata and Ramayana. The most significant development that took place in this Hindu renaissance was development of many cults prominent among them were- Shivaites, Vaishnavas, Yogis and Siddhas. The offshoot of Shivaism was a sect of Jogis that replaced Buddhist Monks in disguise and took up begging or alms seeking as their profession.

Then alone the Pandit is said to be educated if he keeps his mind at calm and serene disposition and reflective on knowledge of the Lord, find its quintessence and enshrine love for the Lord’s Name. The wayward educated person sells his knowledge. He earns poison and poison he eats. A fool cannot contemplate on the Name; he has no understanding and comprehension II 53 II
He alone is said to be God- conscious teacher if he imparts true instructions to his pupils. Contemplating on True Name and store this Name and impart others then you earn the profit of the Name. Make your mind to be a wooden plate (In earlier times children in Punjab wrote alphabets and digits on a wooden plate called patti with an ink that could be wiped with a piece of cloth to write again on it and the plate didn’t get the colour of the ink) on which you scribe the Name of the Lord and His Supreme, sublime word. Nanak he alone is the educated and learned Pandit who wears the necklace of Lord’s Name II 54 II
Note; This is the concluding verse of Bani Onkar in other words the explanation to the concept of Lord to a Brahmin who didn’t allow education to all castes and used his knowledge of God to earn him an earning.

None can know the mysteries of that Creator, Universal Lord. Whatever this Universal Creator plans that definitely does happen.
For the riches of this world the mortals contemplate on His Name but the wealth comes as He writes in his destiny. For the sake of wealth mortals become servants or even thieves. But the crux of the matter is that this wealth does not go with man when he goes (dies) and then it belongs to another. Without the true Name (that goes with man after death) the mortal does not get honour in God’s Court. He who drinks God’s elixir gets emancipated in the end II 50 II
Bewildered, amazed O friend I find myself, astonished how my self- conceit that provoked I-amness and mineness, is now stilled and illuminated now with the knowledge my mind now utters His Name. I am weary of all the ornaments like necklaces, hair-strings, bracelets and cosmetics. Meeting my Beloved I have attained peace, the virtues I wear as garland in my neck. Nanak by Guru’s grace the love and affection of the Lord is obtained. Without God who attains peace? Ponder over this in your mind and see. Read about Lord, understand Him and embrace love for Him. Contemplate on His Name, remember Him. Lord’s Name is the only support II 51 II
The destiny is scribed by the Creator Lord O friend no one can erase it. The Creator Himself created the Universe and mercifully steps (realization) it into man’s mind. The glories are in the hand of the Creator this must be understood by you, reflect upon it by Guru’s word. The Lord’s writ cannot be challenged. As it pleases Him, he keeps me and takes care of me. Reflecting on Your Name Nanak has obtained your gracious glance O Lord. The wayward who forget this are lost to death by rotting in such state. Those who reflect on Guru’s word are saved by Lord. The God person whom man cannot see, how can he say anything about Him? I sacrifice to Guru who has shown me my Master within my mind II 52 II

Happy Father's Day
My father who went from this world eight months ago was a pillar of strength,a monument of remembering power, a house of self confidence, an inspiration for growth in any sphere of life - he proved that with a strong will power man can achieve monumental strength for growing. With two and half years, thirteen operations in a war time hospital where he was put in a morgue for three days, he came back to life, learned trade of electrician and then fulfilled his wish to serve humanity and learned to become a successful homoeopath. His belief in Sikhism and Waheguru was so strong that the Almighty blessed him with extraordinary powers to serve humanity with utmost humility. He served daily 200 to 400 people in his humble practice in Pune and charged people only for medicines. God graced him 93 years of age and he passed away in peace. Today on this first fathers day I remember him with all the love and compassion a daughter can show and pay my tribute. I am sure the heavenly father is looking well after his humble servant.

I cannot imagine any other than Him seated on His beautiful carpet, issuing commands. He is the man of men who keeps the hell away from us. True is He and true is His Name. I wandered through forests and grasslands in His search and now I reflect that all along he was abiding in my mind. The treasures of myriads of pearls, jewels and emeralds are in True Lords hand. Loving the only One Lord single mindedly I became sublime and met with Him. Nanak, he who meets lovingly with the Beloved has the benefit of uniting with Him in His world. He, who has created this universe and given you the form, contemplate on that Infinite Lord who is without limits and bounds II 46 II
R is the alphabet for Rura or beautiful. That Lord Master is beautiful and there is no other King like Him. Look at His charm and hear and absorb His charming chanting (Word) so that He may come and abide within your mind. Don’t stray your mind in doubt. With Guru’s grace, the God’s graciousness can be obtained. He alone is the true trader who possesses the capital of True Lord’s Name. By Guru’s grace he becomes perfect and praiseworthy. Beauteous is the Guru’s word reflecting on which Lord is obtained. Stilling the ego, her pain is eradicated and bride meets the Spouse (Lord) II 47 II
Amassing gold and silver is false; this poisonous wealth is like ashes. Amassing wealth man likes to be called rich and wealthy but duality catches with him and he is wasted. The true ones amass truth because invaluable is the True Name. The truthful remember the Immaculate and Pure Lord. Their speech becomes truthful and they attain honour.  O my Omniscient Lord! You are my friend and Intimate. You are my lake and you are my swan. He within whose mind the True Lord abides I offer my sacrifice because he has understood that the bewitching wealth is illusion only and God has created it. He, who has realized the True Lord, knows poison and nectar are alike II 48 II
Without forbearance myriads, lakhs rather innumerable persons have gone from this world. They cannot be counted and how can I reckon them? Bothered, distressed they suffered and have died. But he, who has realized the Lord, is set free because he becomes free from bondages of worry and doubts. Adopting the Guru’s word man becomes immaculate and able to enter the mansion of Lord. In that mansion of Lord one is spontaneously blessed with forgiveness and truth. On this way to Lord your real riches that you need to spend are meditation of His Name. Through your soul, body and mouth utter Lord’s Name, virtue and composure shall then enter your mind. In self conceit the mortal is distracted and ruined. Without God everything else is evil. Creating the creature Lord has placed Himself within them. The Creator Lord Himself remain detached and Illimitable II 49 II

Guru Granth Sahib
Onkar  13
Wealth, wealth everyone cries for it but it does not go with to the other world. When man dies his soul swan rises and departs and crestfallen he lies dead and forsakes all his wealth. The false soul is harassed by the couriers of death and man dies with all his demerits and falsehood attached to him. If one is virtuous and turns his back to the worldly desires merges in mind itself. With all that I amness of ego many have perished. Without the Name they have found grief alone. Where are those forts, mansions, palaces? They are all short lived plays in His court. Nanak without His Name coming and going in this world is false. The Lord Himself is clever, wise and beauteous. Himself accomplished and Omniscient II 42 II
According to Hindu belief when man departs from this world, his soul wanders into 8.4 million forms of life that may be anything from animal, birds, fishes to microbes before it can come back into human life again. Only after this coming and going into life man can attain moksha when the soul becomes free to unite with the Lord. In the following passage of Onkar bani Guru Nanakji explains His point of view.
They who come to this world shall ultimately go. This cycle of coming and going continues so does the repenting. They pass through 8.4 million existences and the number decreases not nor does it soar. Only those persons are saved from this cycle, who loves their Lord. Their struggle ends because they overcame the illusions of worldly wealth. Whoever I see is merged in this worldly illusion. Whom shall I befriend then? I surrender my ego, my mind, my body and soul to you O Creator Lord and I seek only your support to lean. The ego is stilled when virtues develop and imbued with His Name the world is forgotten II 43 II
None of the Kings and nobles, none of the rich and pauper or any beggar is to stay here. No one is stable and everybody goes on their turn. The path is described pernicious, impressible, dreadful and full of seas, oceans and mountains. With all the collection of sins the body is suffering grief. Without virtues how shall I enter my home (home is the soul that unites with the Lord)? Those virtuous ones have left to meet the Lord. How can I have that love to meet the virtuous ones? Contemplating and remembering God within my mind the enemy of ego; May I ever become like them? The mortal is full of sins but virtues also abide there with him. Without the true Guru and without reflecting on Lord and His Name the virtues remain suppressed II 44 II
The virtuous ones are like soldiers in God’s army with pay fixed before they come into this world. They perform their duties fixed by the Lord and obtain the benefits. From their mind they forsake and forget covetousness, avarice and evil. In their body fortress they consolidate the victory of their Emperor and never return defeated. He, who calls himself the servant of the Lord and replies Him with defiance loses His benevolence and never gets to sit on throne. The Lord retains all glories in His hand and gives only to those with whom He is pleased. He, Himself does everything. Other than Him, whom shall I ask? No one else can do what He does II 45 II

Anandpur Sahib
City of Bliss
Cities are mostly settled by Kings, Emperors and businessman to fulfill their strategic needs and vested interests. Punjab has a unique tradition where cities were settled by Gurus to give the message of peace, communal harmony, to bring equality in humans, to defend the downtrodden from tyranny and guide the humanity in belief of only One True Lord for whom all humanity in various forms, colours shapes, beliefs is equal. Gurus settled various cities all over Punjab prominent among them are Amritsar also known as sifty da ghar because it was settled by Guru Ramdas to live the example of caste and creed less society where people from all walks of life could come and practice their trade and live harmoniously.Other cities settled by Gurus are Goindwal Sahib, Khaddor Sahib, Kartarpur, Kiratpur Sahib, Tarn Taran and Anandpur Sahib.
Anandpur Sahib is celebrating the 350th birthday today. Nestled in the Shivalik ranges the city was settled by ninth Guru Teg Bahadurji dedicated to his mother Nanaki as Nanaki Chakk. A Muslim Fakir asked him once that; the city settlement is task of Kings and rich people why you as a fakir doing the task of Kings? Guruji asked him to stay there and offered him food and night stay. The fakir dreamt that night and in his dream saw that a lion is chasing away all bad spirits and protecting people. In the morning he was expecting answer to his question from Guru ji so he went to see him. He told Guru ji about his dream of a lion. Guruji told him you have answer to your question in your own dream. This city and people living here will be so strong like a lion that they will once defend humanity, bring equality and please Lord with theirs good deeds and the Lord will shower his blessings for their good deeds and they will ever live in bliss.
Guru Teg Bahadurji became the first martyr in the history of the world who gave his head to defend the faith of his co-human beings a faith in which he didn’t have any faith himself because it could not give protection from tyranny as it was divided, un-united, ridden with superstitions and almost helpless to protect itself from tyranny of own religious heads, high caste ideals, exploitations and blind faith and foreign invaders who forcibly set their rule and tyrannized Indians. With the martyrdom of Guruji India’s history took a decisive turn and downfall of mighty Moghuls started and forcible conversion of Hindus stopped. This city of Anandpur Sahib had sent this messiah for Hindus to Delhi where history saw a most brutal execution in Public.
The tenth Master Guru Gobind Singh built five forts here as he knew the repercussions will take place. He gave birth to Khalsa here by becoming their spiritual father and his consort being their spiritual mother. Every Sikh even being born anywhere in the world has his birth place in Anandpur Sahib. This because the ideals of Sikhism to defend downtrodden from tyranny that may happen anywhere in the world goes with him from his birth place, fear has been extinguished from mind of Khalsa forever, he has been adorned with Kirpan to defend weak and himself and by doing all these deeds he shall ever feel blessed. That blessing of the Almighty is the bliss that you can obtain if you become a citizen of this city of bliss or by becoming a Khalsa.
Happy 350th day to all the citizens of the Anandpur Sahib.

Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Onkar  12

Sin is evil but it is sweet to the sinner. He loads sins and through sins he displays his various ostentations. But one who understands evil can shed it himself and gets no pangs of sorrow, separation and sufferings. How can one escape falling into hell? How can escape himself from death’s courier? How can one forget that falsehood is extremely hurtful? And the cycle of rebirth devastating? Mind is entangled in so many worldly webs that man gets trapped. Without the recitation of his Name how can one are saved? In sins one rots and putrefies II 38 II
Again and again crow gets trapped in net and then it repents, how did it happen? Even in trap it doesn’t stop pecking at food because it doesn’t understand? Only after meeting the God conscious Guru does it understands and sees with own eyes. The mortal is also trapped in the fear of death like a fish caught in the Fisherman’s net and repeats his cycle of birth and death. If the mortal gets absorbed in One Lord and fixes his attention to that Lord alone then he gets emancipated forever and never gets trapped again II 39 II
The mortal is like that newly married bride whose brother comes to meet her and when he leaves, she keeps calling, O brother O brother stay with me but he becomes stranger and leaves her there and goes home. Brother has gone home but the separation is unbearable to the sister. While in this world or in her father’s home the young bride to be should embrace the love for her Groom (Lord). O bride (mortal or Jeeva) if you long for your Groom then serve the True Guru to obtain the divine knowledge that only rare people get who understand the truth of True Lord. This wisdom is held in the hand by True Lord and He blesses those He likes. The rare God-conscious person contemplates on His Word. This word comes from the Supreme person and through it man abides in his own home II 40 II
Like a potter the True Lord makes, demolishes and then remakes. The Omnipotent, Care- free Lord has the capability to dry up the lakes and then fill them again. Those in doubt do not understand His play and become crazy and what can they obtain without destiny? The God-conscious knows that the Lord holds all strings in His hand and whenever the Lord draws these strings the mortal has to go. Those who get imbued with His Love and sing His praises never repeat in the end.
Bh is the alphabet for search or bhaal and those who search find His abode in their own home.
Bh is the alphabet for arduous path (bhaujal- worldly ocean that is considered very difficult to cross over without Lord’s help). Remaining desire less amidst worldly desires is the path that can help to cross over the worldly ocean. By the Guru’s grace the mortal understands this way and remains dead (non-committed to worldly desires) while still in life  II 41 II

Guru Granth Sahib
Onkar   11
Without moorings the soul trembles and reels under fear. It is only One the True Lord who provides refuge and glory. By seeking it no deeds can ever go wrong. Ever stable is the God, ever stable is the Guru; ever stable is the meditation of True Lord. O Gods of gods, men and yogis you are the only support of the support less. You are the only One who can pervade all spaces and all inter-spaces. You are a great giver and donor. Where ever I see, I see You alone O Lord. You are without limits and end. You exist at all spaces and by Guru’s instructions you can be reflected upon. You are a great Unfathomable and Infinite Lord who gives without asking. II 34 II
O Lord! You are the body of compassion and charity. You have created this world for us and now you are looking after it. O Lord by extending your mercy You unite people with you. You make them and destroy them in an instant. You are all wise and you are seeing all. You are not only a great but supreme giver. You remove pain by destroying poverty. The exalted Guru blesses man with divine knowledge of meditation II 35 II
If the wealth is lost a fool grieves it greatly because his mind is engrossing in riches. A few amass wealth of truth and love of the immaculate Name. If riches are lost let them be gone. If loosing riches love of the Only One is attained then losing your soul, your head you attain the Creator’s support. The worldly affairs and wanderings come to an end when the Name’s bliss is enters into the mind. When the True Lord is met the enemies become friends. What you were searching by wandering the forests, you realize was at your own home (your body and mind are the abode of God). United with the True Lord you remain blended with Him and the cycle of the rebirth ends II 36 II
Performing various rituals to get the release of soul free from the cycle of rebirth doesn’t help. Unless the man develops various virtues he is destined to be trapped in the city of death and rebirth. The one who commits to sins grieves in the end for not getting place here in this world and yonder. Such a person doesn’t obtain divine knowledge, neither concentration nor faith, nor meditation. Without the grace of Name how can one be fearless? And how can he learn the evils of ego? I am tired now, how can I get my Lord who is Unfathomable and Endless? I never made friends to who I can cry for help. Nanak, if I utter the word (Shabad) again and again the Beloved Groom (God) will unite me with Him. He, who separated me, will unite me with Himself, if I love Him infinitely II 37 II

O my dear friend if you roam from place to place all your beautiful robes is torn off. In jealousy the body is not in peace. Without the fear of the Lord flock over flocks are destroyed. The true bride (a mortal that has become God oriented) has her Lords fear and her wandering has stopped and the Beloved Lord favours His graceful glance on her. She has the fear of her Lord but she becomes fearless in uttering His Name. The world seemed like difficult mountain range and that increased my thirst (urge) to see Him. Now when I have seen Him it seems He was not that far away after all. Contemplating on His Name my thirst is quenched and I quaff on His Name Nectar to my fill. Everyone just asks Him, give O Lord Give but He gives only to those with whom He is pleased. It is at Guru’s door where one gets Name nectar that quenches thirst II 30 II
I was seeking and searching my Lord swayed by winds I dropped down and fell on the very river bank of life that ferries me across to meet the Lord. What I see (all around) that light ones swim across and the heavy ones (full of sins) falling flat. They who meet the Eternal and Immeasurable Lord I could sacrifice my life to them. With the dust of their feet and association of their company a mortal is exonerated and merges in to the Lord’s union. I have surrendered my soul to the Guru and I am blessed with the Name of the Immaculate One. The One who builds (creates) can also demolish (by death). There is none other who can do this. With the grace and mercy of Guru my body shall not suffer any pain (when I go from this world) II 31 II
I bear this in mind that except Lord no one is mine or shall ever be mine. Man is ruined by doubts of rebirth and inflicted with the disease of duality. The men bereft of Lord’s Name fall like a wall built with saline mud. Without the Name how can soul are released? Those, who think that they are over smart, fall into the hell in the end. The true ones (God conscious) describe the Infinite Lord with few words. The ignorant remain ignorant with no understanding of divine knowledge. The separated soul (from God) is like a broken chord of the Rabab that cannot make any music in separation. The Lord has that grace to awaken the destiny of separated soul and unite with Him O Nanak II 32 II
The body is like tree and the mind is winged. The tree and the five winged birds (lust, wrath, ego, avarice and illusions) when get the quintessence of bani become sublime to unite with the One Lord. They lose the sense of being trapped. They fly away from the bird feed of sins. Those trapped in these sins get their wings clipped, caught in the noose trap end in a calamity. Without the help of the True One how can they be released? The jewel of God’s grace is obtained only through His grace. He is the great Master who Himself liberates the mortals. When the Lord shows mercy one is emancipated by Guru’s grace. He blesses the glories to those with whom He is pleased II 35 II

Learn it from the birds
As the summer approaches my ears become more active to hear the various sounds, singing and chirping of birds. Summers are very active period for birds and they love to express their feelings by singing and chirping happily. The place where I live is full of shade trees and ideal for birds to nest or just come for rest. I always keep my eyes and ears open to feel their charming voices and jumping around looking for something. For many years the house sparrow had gone missing from our view but this year I saw them again and that made me very happy. Towards the end of May their young ones are seen and that means hatching period is over and young ones join in the chorus of elders. The cheerful tweeting is to welcome the oncoming monsoon. They know instinctively that monsoon will be coming soon and their singing becomes cheerful. They are waiting for something that may cause havoc in their lives by heavy downpour, their nest all wet and their food all gone. Still they are cheerful to welcome the monsoon because they understand nature much better than us. Water is the life elixir that not only cools, quaffs the thirst, produces the greenery everywhere and makes food grow for everyone.
Welcome monsoon, respect water by saving it because our future gold is water that will save our planet.

Why do you (addressed to a wayward) talk nonsense and quarrels with the world?  Your craziness will ultimately end in repentance and death. The mortal who do not aim for eternal life get stuck in the cycle of birth and death. He comes to this world and does all the nonsense and loses hope, hopeless he departs from this world. In the end he dies regretting, repenting all his vain deeds and ultimately becomes soil with soil. The fear of death does not attach with you when singing God’s praises. The God’s Name is like nine treasures that man obtains as blessings from the Lord Himself easily, spontaneously II 26 II
Man utters divine knowledge and understands himself. He understands it and becomes aware of it. He has enshrined the instructions of Guru in his mind. Thus becoming immaculate and true he becomes pleasing to the Lord. Guru’s instructions are like vast ocean where there is no dearth of pearls. Inexhaustible is the wealth of genuine jewels. Follow the Guru’s instructions and do the deeds as ordained by him. Why are you chasing the wondrous plays of the In-apprehensible Lord as they are endless and in-apprehensible? O Nanak, merge thou in the Lord as Guru Says II 27 II
By speaking in defiance the delicate fabric of affection is broken. The arms break if pulled from both directions. The love breaks if the speech is sour. The Beloved (God) forswear and forsake the evil minded bride. The loosened knot is tied again only through wisdom. By following Guru’s instruction the broken affairs are mended at one’s own home. The one who tries to earn the profit of His Name is never at loss instead he finds a great friend in the True Lord II 28 II
God says; restrain your mind from wandering and still it to stay at one place. Once the mind becomes stable at one place the awareness of all strife and all sins committed comes. The God (spouse) is just One and all others are His brides. The false bride (wayward gone man) adorns many religious garbs. The Lord spouse stops her from going into other’s house, she is then summoned and Lord lets her enter His Mansion without hindrance. She is then adorned with His Name and becomes dear to the Lord. She alone is the true beloved bride and Lord supports her II 29 II

Onkar    8
The playful mind is restless. The mind is like that deer that cannot keep away from eating young green shoots. But, one who succeeds in placing Lord’s lotus feet in his mind and heart and ever and ever remembers only on His Name lives eternally. Everyone looks worried but one who remembers that there is Only One Lord is free from worries, contemplating on His Name, absorbing Him becomes free and emancipated he goes home with honour II 23 II
The body is destroyed when a knot is opened. This knot is the knowledge obtained by wandering the whole world and knowing that it is subject to universal destruction and knowing that heat of the sun and  coolness of a shade are alike. At this knowledge all shackles are shattered, one is emancipated and returns home with salvation. The trifling Mammon has drifted (away from Lord) the whole world and with pre-ordained destiny man follows it with his deeds. His youth is worn out and his old age is filled with fear of death. The worn out body become like water moss II 24 II
Note; water moss remains unchanged with loads of water flowing over it.
God alone is all perceptible in all three worlds. He alone is the Beneficent Lord in all the three worlds and all through ages. There is none other like Him. As it pleases Him, He keeps us in our place. I pray and praise Him, He reflects upon it and blesses me with honour and credit. I keep awake to come to your notice O Lord so that You unite me with You and I merge into thee. I keep singing your praises by Guru’s instructions. The Lord meets for sure II 25 II
