Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Onkar 3
Deviating from the contemplation of One True Lord when one
seeks another source of inspiration all the divine knowledge is lost. The pride
of searching another leads to egoism, the egoisms is like that poison that
finishes a person and his self and life. Such a person doesn’t even like
religious hymns sung in the praise of the Lord. This way he loses the Profound,
Unfathomable Lord’s benediction. If the mortal believes in Guru he obtains the nectar
for his soul and body and the One True Lord becomes pleasing to him. The Lord
Himself is the true exalted Guru and blesses His devotee with the nectar of His
Name and makes him quaff the nectar II 4 II
Everyone says that the God is One but each one is engrossed
in ego and pride. When man realizes that One God who resides in his heart is
all pervading (in nature and in other living beings) then he will feel His
presences within him. God is close to your heart O man! Don’t even think He is
far away somewhere instead He is the One who is permeating the whole world.
There is only One Lord not another. Nanak remains merged in this One Lord II 5
II
It is the mind that has become your Master. How will you keep
it under control? It becomes oversized and immeasurable. The craving for wealth
makes man crazy and he resorts to lies and frauds. Man becomes dependent on
negative values like greed, avarice and his downfall comes and then he repents.
If man believes and serves only One True Lord and realizes His worth he may be
emancipated from all malice and become free ( becoming free means merging into
the True Lord and with that recycle of birth and death stops) II 6 II
The Unique Lord is in all characters, colours and forms. He
appears in wind, water and fire. His soul (Spirit) wanders through all worlds.
If a mortal understands that and perceives that there is but One Lord, he is
blessed with honour. He, who gathers divine wisdom, finds his equipoise. By Guru’s
grace rare people achieve this state of equipoise and those who receive are at
peace. He then utters and preaches the Name through Guru II 7 II
