Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Vaar Maajh 7
Fourth Guru
Renounce sexual pleasures,
wrath, falsehood and slandering, forsake worldly illusions and dispel pride.
Put aside the lust for belles and leave worldly love. Then alone you will see
the bright light of Lord amidst darkness spread everywhere.
Abandon self- adoration,
ego, and affection for your son and wife. Shed your thirst for worldly desires
and embrace love for the Omnipresent Lord.
Nanak, he in whose mind
the True One abides with the help of Gurbani gets absorbed in the True Lord’s
Name II 2 II
Pauri
The Kings and all their
subjects, all the chiefs none shall remain. The shops, the cities and their
streets may all demolish by the order of God. The solidly built beautiful
mansions the fools deems his own, all the treasure houses filled with wealth
and riches may become empty in an instant. Arabian horses, chariots, camels,
elephants with their saddler and beautiful gardens, properties, homes and
buildings, couches webbed with cotton tapes (Navar)and satin pavilions, the
tents, where are they that man considered his own? Nanak says; true is the Lord
who is recognized as bestower by His manifestation in His Creation II 8 II
Shlok First
Guru
If the rivers become milk
giving cows, the springs become milk and ghee (clarified butter). The entire
earth could become sugar to rejoice the mind fully. If the mountain could
become gold and silver studded with jewels even then I shall admire you O Lord
and my yearning to praise shall never cease II 1 II
First
Guru
If the eighteen loads of
vegetation (each load is made of one leaf from each tree, plant and shrub that
is prevalent in nature and two loads makes one mound) were to become fruits and
if the evergreen grass could become delicious rice, if I could stop the sun and
moon to take their course and make a permanent seat a stable feature. Even then
I would admire you O Lord and never cease to sing your praises II 2 II
First
Guru
If I get my body inflicted
with pain through sins of two planets Rahu and Ketu; if the blood sucking Kings
sway their domination over my head and give me that feeling of worsening my condition,
even then I shall admire you O my Lord and singing your praises shall never
cease II 3 II
First Guru
If fire and frost be my
garments and wind my food, all the charming fairies of the heaven be my wives,
all this shall pass away. Even then I shall admire you and never cease to sing
your praises II 4 II
