Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Vaar Maajh 8
Pauri
Evil doer is known as
demon and he does not agree with the existence of God.
A lunatic who has lost his
mind will also not know the existence of God.
The strife or conflicts
are destructive for this world.
With contentions man
becomes stressed.
Without the Name of the
God the scepticism grows and man is destroyed.
The one who understand that
the both ways are same (because this difference is created by God for us to
understand the difference between good and evil) will be emancipated.
(His ‘Will’ reigns) The
blasphemer will fall in a pit and burn to ashes.
All those who remain
absorbed in the Truth become immaculate.
The one who loses his self
and his conceit becomes exonerated in the court of the Lord II 9 II
Shlok First
Guru
He alone lives in whose
heart God comes to abide.
O Nanak he who has lost
his self respect has no life at all and all that he eats in this dishonored
state is a loss, a downfall.
Intoxication of becoming
ruling class and pleasures of wealth makes a man shameless but he keeps dancing
shamelessly in his stupor.
Nanak says; he is actually
swindled and duped by his intoxication because he departs from this world
without Lord’s Name. There is no self respect and honour in God’s court without
His Name

What pleasures in
relishing good food? What pleasures in wearing good clothes when the mind is
not becoming abode of True Lord?
What good is all that dry
fruits, butter, jaggery, floor and meat? What good are beautiful robes,
comfortable wedding beds where sensual pleasures are enjoyed?
Of what good is a large
army, mace bearers, servants and huge mansions where people keep coming and
going?
Nanak says without the
Lord’s Name the entire paraphernalia is perishable II 2 II
Pauri
What is the power of
Caste? It is the righteousness that counts or will be judged. The pride of high
caste is like poison in hand if tasted alone it kills and man can die.
The sovereign authority of
the True Lord is known throughout all ages. He, who obeys the orders of the
Lord becomes a noble (Sardar) in His Court. God sends them in this world to
execute His orders after judging their performances.
A drummer whose job is to
play drums (Tabla) only but starts meditating and pondering over the word
(Gurbani) just by listening.
Hearing this some have
mounted the horses and others are preparing them to follow. (The importance of the
word to follow the path to become perfect human being is like mounting the
horse to go to battlefield for becoming victorious). Some are still tying their
bundles whereas others have ridden off II 10 II
