Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Vaar Maajh    19

Shlok First Guru
The bitterness of wild gourd (tumbi), poisonous Akk, dhatura (thornapple), fruits of Neem abides in the mouth and mind of him, who remembers you not O Lord!
Nanak says whom shall I tell this, that they are without good destiny and will be annihilated II 1 II
First Guru
The soul is like a bird that by its actions flies high and then dives down. It perches on sandalwood tree and on branches of Akk the poisonous bush alike. It loves to soar high.
Nanak the Lord moves the world and its beings according to His Will. Expression of His Will is his style II 2 II
Pauri
There are some who expound and explain Lord, while describing and narrating Him they depart from this world.
Even the Vedas speak and interpret the Lord but cannot fathom His limits.
Not by reading and studying but by understanding the Will of Lord His secret is found.
By studying the philosophy of six Shastras, rare are those who could merge in the Truth of the Lord.
The word of the True One is true and inscrutable and that alone adorns a seeker.
He, who believes in Infinite One’s Name, comes to His Court.
I the minstrel, pay obeisance to the Creator by singing His praises.
In all ages O Nanak! The Lord is only One whom I enshrine in my mind II 21 II
