Today’s Mukhvaak from Harmandir Sahib

Today’s mukhvaak has history behind it. When the Sikhs were persecuted and majority lived in far flung villages and forests to avoid their murder by Moguls and Afghani persecutors the important Gurudwaras were taken over by Mahants and they were under the patronage of colonial administration. Many Sikh intellectuals and devoted Sikhs wanted to bring Gurudwaras under the controls of Sikhs so that any misappropriation of funds that come from public could be stopped. Moreover these Mahants were allowing astrology shops and begging within the premises of Harmandir Sahib. There were many non Sikh rituals performed to make pockets fill by these Purohits. The worst was caste system was being revived and member from lower caste were not given Prasad and their Prasad was not accepted. There was a ravidasia conference on 11^th ,12^th, and 13^th October 1920 at Amritsar and they brought Prasad which was refused by the Mahant. Though lot of fight was going on for the rehabilitation of Gurudwaras to Sikh Sangat but this incident angered the Sikh Sangat and in a swift move the control of Harmandir  Sahib was taken by Sikh Sangat and the movement was given new organizational character namely SGPC which played important role in bringing all important Gurudwaras under the Sikh Sangat control and caste based discrimination was removed forever from Harmandir Sahib’s premises. Its doors were open to all races and creeds without discrimination. After taking control of the Harmandir Sahib the first Vaak that was read from Guru Granth Sahib was repeated today. This mukhvaak was so fitting for the occasion and please read it once again.
