Shlok First Guru
Those who sing the praises of Lord early morning and meditate on His Name single mindedly they are the perfect Kings and know to fight the evil sins at right time.
In the second part of the day the attention of the mind gets diverted and man’s mind goes on different paths.
Many can fall into the deep dark waters and suffer drowning and fail to come out of it.
In the third part of the day both hunger and thirst keep urging and man puts morsel in his mouth.
All that food eaten becomes ashes but the friendship with food is deeper.
In the fourth part of day the drowsiness overtakes the eyes close and man goes into the dream land.
He rises up and engages himself in all the strife all over again and believes as if he is going to live hundred years.
If in all the eight watches of the day man has fear of Almighty in his mind then O Nanak the Lord comes to abide in his mind and that is true ablution II 1 II
Second Guru
They are the perfect money lenders who have found the perfect Lord. They remain unconcerned from outside world and remain absorbed in the love of True Lord during all eight watches of the day.
It is not certain to get a glimpse of the Infinite and Unique Lord. It is seldom to have the fortune to meet a perfect Guru whose speech is perfect too.
Nanak says; if the perfect Guru makes a man perfect he may not lose anything or his worth II 2 II
                                         Pauri
When you have become mine, what more desires do I have? I am telling this is the truth O my Lord.
The one who falls prey to the worldly frauds and illusions obtains not the Palace of the Lord.
The heart becomes like stone and the opportunity is lost to serve the Lord.
The heart where Lord doesn’t come to abide must be demolished and rebuilt.
Only weighing with perfect measures a weight can be said to correct?
If the ego is abandoned no one can say the weight is short.
The genuine is estimated only then one is allowed to enter the mansion of the All- seeing Lord.
The true merchandise is available only in one shop and it is obtained through the True Guru II 17 II

The Rakhi of a Sikh Girl
Inspired by a Katha wachak of Manji Sahib Gurdwara
By upgrading the status of a woman and giving her equality, honour and independence Guru Nanak has put a woman on that pedestal of society that she no more requires protection from a brother or father. After coming into this world she should be taught that the only protector of her is the Almighty Lord. Rakhi day should be celebrated as brothers day by praying to that Almighty that her brother should be graced with that strength that he respects all women in the world, that he protects a woman in distress any time anywhere, that he makes no discrimination between her and others’ sisters, that he should always respect his mother and wife, that he becomes a person with highest virtues, that he will never emotionally black mail his sister to usurp her part of the property, that he will protect a girl child and let her come to this world and enjoy the beauties of the world.

O God let this world have such a beautiful tribe of brothers!

                             Shlok First Guru
The Dark Age is the butcher’s knife and the Kings are the butchers, the righteousness has taken wings and flown.
The falsehood is like the darkness of Amawas- no moon night where the moon of truth doesn't seem to rise anywhere.
My search has perplexed me. In this darkness the path is not clear.
The ego of a man gives him only pain. Says Nanak, how will the mortal be emancipated? II 1 II
                                   Third Guru
In this Dark Age only the singing of praises of Lord appears to bring light to the world.
Few who become God oriented can swim across the world ocean.
The few see this light on whom God bestows His merciful glance.
Through Guru’s instructions the Name jewel is obtained O Nanak!
II 2 II
                                   Pauri
There can never be an understanding between devotees and the worldly men.
The Creator is himself immaculate without any errors and cannot be duped if one tries to hoodwink.
He absorbs and merges within Him all His true devotees.
All those who lie repeatedly eat poison and God does not show them the right path.
The ultimate truth is departing from this world and the reality of this truth is ignored by all those who keep eating the poison of lust and wrath.
Devotees perform service day and night and meditate on God’s Name.
Becoming the slave of slaves they efface ego and self-conceit from within themselves.
Their faces become bright and glowing in the home of their Spouse (God) and they are adorned with the True Name II 16 II

When it pleases you Lord the mortal plays music and sings.
When it pleases you, he bathes in water.
When it pleases you, he smears his body with ashes and sounds shell conk.
When it pleases You O Lord he reads Holy Scriptures of Muslim and calls himself Mullah or Sheikh.
When it pleases You he becomes King and enjoys all sweets and savoury.
When it pleases You he wields sword and and swears head from body.
When it pleases You, people go to foreign shores hear all sorts of things and come back.
When it pleases You, a mortal gets absorbed in Your Name and with your Will becomes pleasing to you.
Nanak prays that he works according to your will so that he does not fall prey to falsehood II 1 II
                                    First Guru
As you are good O Lord all the goodness emanates from You. You do nothing but good.
When you are True all that flows from you is nothing but truth. Absolutely nothing is false.
Speaking, seeing, uttering, living, walking and dying and perishing in five elements are under your will O Lord.
Nanak, the True Lord creates all under His will and He keeps all beings under His Will II 2 II
                                   Pauri
Fearlessly serve the True Lord and the doubt shall cease.
Do the work that the True Lord has assigned to you.
If the true Lord becomes merciful the one contemplates on His Name.
The illustrious and genuine profit by devotional service of the True Lord will be yours.
The wayward is pushed into the darkness of falsehood and keeps practising falsehood.
O man, reach the door of True Lord and repeat His Name.
The true ones are called within His mansion.
Nanak, the truthful person is forever true and thus gets absorbed in to the True Being II 15 II

Your Command is the truth O Lord a Guru ward recognizes it because he has erased his self and conceit and followed Guru’s instructions to know this truth. Your court is the truth which becomes manifest with Guru’s word (shabad). Contemplating on the true word I have been absorbed in the True One.
The self willed (Manmukh) are all false as they go way ward they get more deluded by doubt. Living in the filth of their falseness and doubt they do not know the taste of God’s Name. Without Lord’s Name the pain of coming and going (cycle of rebirth) continues for them.
Nanak says; the Lord Himself is the judge to distinguish between genuine and the false ones II 13 II
                                  Shlok First Guru
He (God) can make tigers, hawks, kites and falcons (all pray eating animals) eat grass.
He can make grass eaters eat meat. He can change this order of life if He Wills.
He can create sand dunes in the midst of Rivers and create deserts into unfathomable oceans.
He can make a mere worm into a King and reduce an army into ashes in a moment.
All the living being live on breath and what can a breath do if He wants to sustain life?
As it pleases the Lord so does He sustains O Nanak II 1 II
                                  First Guru
Some are carnivorous others live on grass.
Some live on thirty six varieties of delicacies.
Some live on soil and eat soil.
Some can control their breath and even count them.
Some live on the adoration of the Formless One and obtain His Name as support.
The Benevolent Lord lives eternally and never lets paucity come in His giving.
Nanak, those who do not get themselves and their mind attuned to the Lord are themselves beguiled II 2 II
                               Pauri
Only good fortune brings man in the service of Lord.
Effacing his self by Guru’s instructions a mortal does meditation on God’s name.
Doing some way ward tasks mortal wastes his time.
Without Lord’s Name all that man wears and eats is poison.
By praising the true Name man merges in the True Lord.
Without serving the True Lord the abode of peace is not obtained and man becomes subject to cycle of rebirth.
With the false capital the falsehood is earned in the world.
Nanak, by singing the praises of the Pure, True Lord the life in the nether world gets self respect and honour II 14 II

When bronze, gold and iron breaks up the Smith joins it again by melting it in fire.
When there is break up in relationship between husband and wife it is the son who effects reconciliation between them again.
When Kings demand (whatever- taxes, revenue, wealth, soldiers), by giving only one gets respite.
Hunger of a hungry man is satiated only by eating food.
Relief from famine comes only if it rains and rivers overflow.
There is an affinity between sweet words and love.
If truth is spoken the bond with Holy Scriptures gets established.
By truth and goodness a bond of dead is established with living (everyone remembers a good truthful person even after death).
Such are the bonds that prevail in this world.
The fool is mended only if he is struck on face.
Nanak says; he has come to this conclusion only after intense deliberations by singing the praises a bond is established in the Lord’s court II 2 II
After creating this world the God gives it an afterthought. He created some false ones and some truthful people. The genuine ones he consigns to His treasury and the false ones throws out outside from His true court. When the false one are thrown out of His true court, who shall they pray for pardon? The only way is to seek sanction in Guru’s sanctuary.
The True Guru makes pure ones from the false because he is the embellisher of man with God’s Name. By enshrining love and affection for the Lord’s Name Guru makes them acceptable in True Lord’s court.
No one can question their worth who have been pardoned by the Creator Himself II 12 II

Shlok First Guru;
When the crop becomes ripe it is harvested but still the straw and hedge remain. Along with the bristled ears the crop is thrashed and by winnowing the thrashed corn is separated from crop. Then this corn is grinded by joining two quern stones by people. The corn that remain attached to the axis do not get grinded. Nanak noticed this wonderful thing II 1 II
See that the sugar cane is sheared, cleansed by chopping its plum then the feet are tied together to make bundles. These bundles are crushed between two wooden rollers. The process is like giving punishment because after extracting the juice they are put in fire and they cry as they burn. The emptied remains of sugar cane are put to fire. Nanak, how the sweet juice giving sugar cane is treated just come and see O people II 2 II
                                  Pauri
Some just never think of death and keep many hopes by wishing many things. Such people die, perish and are reborn but they are of no use. In their heart of heart they call themselves good. The king of the angles of death keeps stalking such wayward people. Such wayward people are thankless and never recognize good done to them. All those who pay homage under compulsion are not pleasing to the Lord. Only, those are exalted who have True Name on their mind. They bow before Lord’s throne who get a good destiny II 11 II
                                 Shlok First Guru
What can deep waters do to a fish and what can sky do to a bird?
What can cold do to a stone and what can married life to an eunuch?
The sandal wood paste applied to a dog will not change his canine nature.
One can read the religious scriptures like smritis to a deaf and one can light fifty lamps in front of the blind but all in vain.
One can put gold for eating in front of a cattle but they will pick up the grass to eat.
If flux is put into fire for melting iron still it will not turn into cotton.
Nanak, this is the nature of a fool that he always talk of mortal sins and death II 1 II

Realization of God in Sikhism
In Sikh traditions the realization of God is effected through Guru because he is the one who has realized the truth about God. The God’s word is spoken through Guru that has come to be known as Gurbani. We also call it Shabad or word. The realization of this word has first come to Guru Nanak ji and he spread the word by singing it in various ragas of ancient Indian musical knowledge and many ragas and their consorts were constructed by Gurus themselves. Guru Nanak ji preached his high valued principles for the benefit of humanity and upliftment of poor and disadvantaged humanity. The ultimate knowledge that came from Almighty to Guru Nanak is described as light or Jyot and to spread this knowledge in his life time was not possible so a system of Guru was developed and this enlightenment was passed to the next person who possessed that divine light of Almighty and understanding at the same level of Guru Nanak. So the Guru who received this light became part of that divine light and became a human candle that can abolish darkness from this world and make humanity understand that there is only One God who is for all humanity and who is generous, loving, compassionate and for whom the humanity is equal. This tradition of merging the divine light to next Guru was a ceremonial process and once decided by the Guru no one could defy it because the basis for this was inheritance of divine light and understanding Almighty’s Will or Hukam. Ten Gurus possessed this divine light and merging of it took place in the lifetime of predecessor Guru accept in the case of Guru Harkishan ji who could not pronounce his last words and Name his follower due to his illness and consequent weakness. This tradition is known as Jyot me Jyot samana or merging of divine light. The last Guru Gobind Singh ji passed this jyot or divine light and merged in to the word. This word is known as Guru Granth Sahib and that has become our Eternal Guru. When we read the Guru Granth Sahib the word of Almighty becomes alive. Following it and understanding and execution of its teachings is the prime object of a true Sikh. The essence of it is to make a man or jiva understand that he is from divine lineage and he has to enshrine in his mind that One God for all humanity is the only truth, the worlds are created by this One God and after creating it God has pervaded in it in all spaces. Only when man understands the meaning of his divine lineage and execution of God’s Will the evil of this world can be is overpowered. God created human beings so they are essentially good but still the evil enters human nature because the God gave freedom to the intellect of human beings and this intellect can become evil and reason of it becoming evil can lie in the religion, amassing of wealth, ego and pride. The evil in religion can make man go astray from the path of righteousness and humanity. All the cruelties in the world have taken place in the Name of religion. The monopolization of God by most religion is the root cause that religions in it have gone away from the realization of truth about the Creator and his Oneness. That is why the thesis of Guru Nanak becomes very relevant because of its universal nature.

The material happiness of man is considered of prime importance in Sikhism because a happy and satisfied man is supposed to pursue his higher goals of rediscovering himself for higher moral values and spiritual experience. The persistent opposition to oppressive state structures and empty ritualism because of their anti- humanity character can be seen in the thought of all Gurus and the Bani were made medium to bring forward a change in deteriorating values.

Gems of Gurbani
Guru Granth Sahib
Vaar Maajh   8

                                    Pauri
Evil doer is known as demon and he does not agree with the existence of God.
A lunatic who has lost his mind will also not know the existence of God.
The strife or conflicts are destructive for this world.
With contentions man becomes stressed.
Without the Name of the God the scepticism grows and man is destroyed.
The one who understand that the both ways are same (because this difference is created by God for us to understand the difference between good and evil) will be emancipated.
(His ‘Will’ reigns) The blasphemer will fall in a pit and burn to ashes.
All those who remain absorbed in the Truth become immaculate.
The one who loses his self and his conceit becomes exonerated in the court of the Lord II 9 II
                                Shlok First Guru
He alone lives in whose heart God comes to abide.
O Nanak he who has lost his self respect has no life at all and all that he eats in this dishonored state is a loss, a downfall.
Intoxication of becoming ruling class and pleasures of wealth makes a man shameless but he keeps dancing shamelessly in his stupor.
Nanak says; he is actually swindled and duped by his intoxication because he departs from this world without Lord’s Name. There is no self respect and honour in God’s court without His Name
II 1 II
                              First Guru
What pleasures in relishing good food? What pleasures in wearing good clothes when the mind is not becoming abode of True Lord?
What good is all that dry fruits, butter, jaggery, floor and meat? What good are beautiful robes, comfortable wedding beds where sensual pleasures are enjoyed?
Of what good is a large army, mace bearers, servants and huge mansions where people keep coming and going?
Nanak says without the Lord’s Name the entire paraphernalia is perishable II 2 II
                                  Pauri
What is the power of Caste? It is the righteousness that counts or will be judged. The pride of high caste is like poison in hand if tasted alone it kills and man can die.
The sovereign authority of the True Lord is known throughout all ages. He, who obeys the orders of the Lord becomes a noble (Sardar) in His Court. God sends them in this world to execute His orders after judging their performances.
A drummer whose job is to play drums (Tabla) only but starts meditating and pondering over the word (Gurbani) just by listening.
Hearing this some have mounted the horses and others are preparing them to follow. (The importance of the word to follow the path to become perfect human being is like mounting the horse to go to battlefield for becoming victorious). Some are still tying their bundles whereas others have ridden off II 10 II

Freedom of Consciousness
Today on 15th August 2015 the hukamnama vyakhya from Manji Sahib Gurudwara had a very impressive explanation on actual freedom. Bhai ji explained that man can be free if his conscious is free. What freedom we got from Britishers was physical freedom for our country. He also reminded that the foundation of freedom struggle for this country was laid by Maharaja Ranjit Singh when he permanently sealed Khyber pass to save India from Invaders from Afghanistan, Mongolia and Khurasan.
Freedom of conscious human rights to believe in whatever God you want to believe was achieved by Guru Teg Bahadur ji by sacrificing his head at Delhi.
Freedom from foreign rule was evoked by Guru Gobind Singh ji by preparing Khalsa Fauj to fight the tyranny of Foreign rulers and superstitions of falling prey to own religious thinking’s and subjugation to remain inferior human beings.
Freedom from Gora Raj and their atrocities was evoked by Gadrites, Kukas and later Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh and more than 80 percent Punjabi martyrs who gave their lives to expel British from this land.
This freedom has not come from folded hands of Gandhi and Nehru they just were opportunist who took advantage of vacuum that was created by massacre of thousands of top grade freedom fighters or by putting them in Andaman jails. When Punjabis have given 80% martyrs to free this country from foreign rulers let us remember every year that we have to pay tribute to them as well. When we have given so many martyrs we have every right to join in the celebrations and building of this nation on our terms and conditions and not on some bania’s speeches and false assurances.

India @ 69
“Modi”fication promised ache din. Did they come? I didn’t see any. What a shame that I sleep a lot. Please inform me if anyone has seen the ache din. The news channels cried hoarse to expel Vasundhra Raje and Sushma Swaraj from power little knowing that lust of power is so much stronger than their roof top shouting for 24 hours. Congress did, walked, and demonstrated at jantar mantar only politics to wash out monsoon session of Parliament. In fact all of opposition cared a penny for all the money needed for running session of parliament because the first rule of Indian politics is don’t bother about public money that is for loot. The washed out monsoon parliament session is bringing democracy to stand still.
At 69 the wisdom has gone completely from politics instead of maturing to become a mature nation we are heading for downfall of democracy. The political idiots (likes of Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh) are growing by leaps and bounds.
Vyapam scams, bribes by Goa Ministers will that end?
Minorities still struggling to get justice in India @ 69.
What independence are we celebrating tomorrow?
Women in this country are living in fear. Daughters not wanted. Child labour still rampant in India. In urban India educated class is employing children as domestic servants. Education degrees are sold and making law ministers in Delhi. Swachh Bharat has failed miserably Modi ji. Parliamentarians are subsidized for their food and hundreds go hungry on streets of India. Begging has increased on all traffic squares.
Can we greet Happy Independence Day?

Renounce sexual pleasures, wrath, falsehood and slandering, forsake worldly illusions and dispel pride. Put aside the lust for belles and leave worldly love. Then alone you will see the bright light of Lord amidst darkness spread everywhere.
Abandon self- adoration, ego, and affection for your son and wife. Shed your thirst for worldly desires and embrace love for the Omnipresent Lord.

The Kings and all their subjects, all the chiefs none shall remain. The shops, the cities and their streets may all demolish by the order of God. The solidly built beautiful mansions the fools deems his own, all the treasure houses filled with wealth and riches may become empty in an instant. Arabian horses, chariots, camels, elephants with their saddler and beautiful gardens, properties, homes and buildings, couches webbed with cotton tapes (Navar)and satin pavilions, the tents, where are they that man considered his own? Even then I would admire you O Lord and never cease to sing your praises II 2 II

Pauri
Throughout all the months, seasons, gharries (a unit of 24 minutes is one Ghari) and murats (a unit of two gharries make one murat i.e. 48 minutes) I meditate on you O Lord !
Thus calculating none has obtained you O True unseen and illimitable Lord!
An educated person who harbours greed, avarice and pride should actually be called a fool.
Read His Name and contemplate on it and ponder over the Guru’s instructions. With Guru’s instructions I have earned the wealth of God’s Name and now my treasure house is filled brimful with devotion to the Lord.
With a belief in His Immaculate Name a mortal also becomes immaculate and is known as true in His court.
The light of the Immortal Being that is enshrined as soul within a mortal is actually the very life within him.
You alone are true Banker O Lord! The rest of the world is just petty dealers II 6 II
                                Shlok First Guru
Make mercy your Mosque, faith your payer mat, what is just and lawful your Quran, circumcision and civility your fast only then you shall be a Muslim.
Make right conduct your Mecca, truth your spiritual guide and pious deeds your creed and prayer.
Your Rosary (prayer beads) is the one that is pleasing to the Lord, thus the Lord will preserve your honour Says Nanak II 1 II
                                First Guru
Nanak says; another’s right is swine (for Muslim) and cow (for Hindus) for him. The Guru or Prophet shall stand surety only if one eats not carrion (sucking of one, another’s blood is compared to eating carrion).
By mere talk one goes not to heaven. The deliverance is only by practising truth alone. Spicing an unlawful food one cannot make it lawful.
From false talk only falsehood is obtained says Nanak.
First Guru
There are five prayers and five times to read them and each having its Name.
The first is truthfulness, second is honest earning and third is charity in God’s Name.
The fourth is pure intent and mind and fifth is the Creator’s praise and admiration.
Repeat your initiation utterances only after doing good deeds and then call yourself a Muslim.
Nanak says all liars shall obtain what is altogether false II 3 II
The wayward putrefy and die in duality without understanding the divine comprehension.
There is but only One Lord and how can you forward your complaint in another’s presence.
Some are always poor and others have treasures full with wealth.
But if they don’t learn the God’s Name all that wealth is but poison and ashes.
Nanak says the Lord Himself has created this order and He alone makes them understand. By His Will or Hukam he brings reforms in people II 7 II
                               Shlok First Guru

To be called a Muslim is difficult. If one is really a Muslim then alone he gets to be called a Muslim, first he shall agree that other’s belief and devotion to the Lord is sweet and efface his pride of wealth and power rasped and scraped. Becoming the true disciple of the faith of the prophet let him put aside the illusion of death and life. He should heartily submit to the Lord’s Will, worship the Creator and efface his self-conceit. Thereafter if he is merciful to all sentient beings O Nanak then alone he shall be called a Musalman II 1 II

Ang 140
Shlok First Guru;
By uttering falsehood man is same as eating carrion, yet he has the impunity to preach others. O Nanak; He appears to be a leader who seems to have been tricked but tricks his comrades all the while.
Fourth Guru
He within whom the Truth comes to reside obtains the True Name and with his mouth utters the truth. He himself walks the path to God and inspires others to do the same. If there is a tank with pure water then by washing filth gets washed off. By bathing in a pond still more filth attaches to the man. The perfect place for the pilgrimage is the True Guru who has been meditating on the Name of the supreme Lord. He emancipates himself, his family and saves the whole world. Nanak, the servant sacrifices to him who himself repeats God’s Name and inspires others to utter the Name II 2 II
Pauri
Some live in forests and pick fibrous roots and fruits to survive, some wander about in orange robes as Yogis and solitarians. The great desire and fire for food and clothing keeps burning in them. They just waste their lives. They are neither householders nor renouncers. Birth and death however does not cease to hover over their heads and they remain bonded to three phased desires; of lineage, wealth and esteem. With the instructions of Guru the man becomes slave of the Lord’s slave and fear of death gets abandoned. The True Name abides in the mind and that is the homecoming of truth and man becomes detached in his own home (mind). O Nanak serving the True Lord man becomes desire-less from desires II 5 II
Shlok First Guru:
If clothes get stained with blood the garments get polluted. Those who suck the blood of human beings how can their mind be pure? Says Nanak; you utter the Name of God, from your mouth with sincere heart otherwise the worldly ostentations will lead you to practice false deeds II 1 II
First Guru
When I am nobody, what can I say? Since nothing I am what can I be?
As God made so I act. As he told me so I speak. I am brimful with sins and now I am washing them off. Myself I have not understood but I am trying to teach others such a leader I am. Nanak says; thus myself being blind I am showing the way to the companions.
In his next world after death such a leader will be beaten with shoes and then he shall know what a leader he was II 2 II
Note; this kind of religious leaders of the society, some taking path of renunciations and becoming hermit and others sucking blood of poor people existed in the time of Guru Nanak. All those who claimed to be scholars of religious books and wanted to lead society were themselves blind as they didn’t recognize the Will of Almighty and preferred a life of degradation.
